Tromsø: Reindeer Sledding & Feeding with a Sami Guide

fabulous day and memories I will cherish. Same are beautiful friendly people how took real pleasure in sharing their knowledge.

We went by bus to the Sami village where a Sami lady told us a bit of history and then sang a traditional song. We went outside to feed the reindeer which was super fun but be careful becayse their antlers are super long! We were taught how to throw a lasso and fed reindeer stew. During the reindeer feeding you could go into a little hut if you were too cold and were served hot chocolate/tea/coffee and biscuits by a kind lady. There was a small shop run by the Sami where you could buy things like lip balm made of reindeer oil, bottle corks out of antlers, Sami clothing, etc. Everything went very smooth. The only negative comment I have is that the sledding should be excluded all together. The ride itself is a very slow one around the yard and the reindeers were very obviously tired (to the point that the people who booked the 'long sledding' were told they could only do the short one and would be partially refunded). The sledding part didn't add anything to the tour.

It was a low-key experience, which is what was expected. The highlight was the young woman who spoke to the group around the fire about the Sami culture. She was straightforward and informative, and exceeded our expectations.
