It was a rare and unusual experience that we would never probably be able to have had we not taken this tour. Feeding the reindeer was fun and something different for us. Listening to the Sami talk about the culture and life of the Sami's was extremely interesting and enlightening. It brought something into our lives that never would have happened had we not taken the tour.

Full description

Discover a home in the icy wilderness on a guided trip to a reindeer ranch owned by the Sami people. Get close to a herd of 300 wild reindeer and let them eat straight from your hands. Enter a traditional hut and warm up with a meal before listening to cultural songs and stories.


Set off from Tromso and travel through beautiful scenic landscapes before arriving at the nearby ranch. Call out and watch the peaceful reindeer approach as you feed them from your hands.


Be invited into a typical hut to be served warm drinks. Learn about the lives of the Sami people as you tuck into a traditional meal cooked over the fire.


Gather around the campfire in a Sami tent and prepare for the cultural performance. Listen to stories that have been passed down over generations and be carried away by the melody of a joik (song) before returning to Tromso.

Meeting point

- Pick up 9.40 (morning tour) / 12.40 (afternoon tour) at the bus terminal at Tromsø Havn Prostneset, (Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008, Tromsø) There are two entrances at the bus terminal. One is by the buses and one is between the Terminal and the Clarion Edge. Our guides will be where the buses are ready to depart to camp. If you do go to the wrong entrances, walk through the terminal to the other entrance and you will find us there. - Our pick up guides wear blue 'Tromso Arctic Reindeer' jackets. - Please arrive with time to spare so we can ensure a prompt departure of 10.00 / 13.00.

Fantastic activity. We opted to not book a farm with a sled ride as I had read reviews that said it wasn’t worth the money and we also had dog sledding booked anyways. We didn’t feel as though we missed out as we spent loads of time meeting and feeding the reindeer. Was then given refreshments and reindeer stew which I wasn’t overly keen on but my boyfriend really enjoyed. We then learnt about the Sami culture and reindeer farming. Was a very comfortable bus journey, only 30 minutes from Tromsø. The guide and staff were all very friendly and the farm had a gift shop with handmade souvenirs and loos onsite too. Highly recommended
