Full description

Treat yourself to a guided tour of the magical winter wonderland of Tromsø Ice Domes. Enjoy a scenic bus ride from the city center of Tromsø, discover the construction process of the domes, and marvel at intricate ice sculptures.

Begin your day with a comfortable drive to the Tromsø Ice Domes in the mountains above Tamok Valley. Each year at the start of the winter season, new Tromsø Ice Domes are constructed.

Upon arrival, join a guided tour through the domes, passing beautiful ice sculptures and snow carvings lit with magical special lighting effects. Learn about the typical northern Norwegian themes of the snow and ice sculptures, featuring the Northern Lights, Sami culture, and Arctic animals.

Learn about the construction process of the domes and the impact the snow has on all life in the Arctic. After the guided tour, enjoy some free time to explore on your own, visit the herd of reindeer near the Domes, and have a non-alcoholic ice shot at the ice bar.

Warm up around a fireplace and relax in a warm wooden lavvu (traditional Sami dwelling) while enjoying a traditional Norwegian soup or stew.

Really lovely place to visit and amazing to see the detail and work that goes into the ice domes! You get to have a look around and take amazing pictures in every room then you can see the reindeer at the end, unfortunately you can’t get up close and personal so if you are like me who loves animals I would suggest booking a reindeer feeding excursion! We enjoyed a lovely soup and some hot drinks with a ice shot, this is a really calm day out if you’re not too active. The ice dome staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The only tiny downside was the drinks menu, black coffee, black tea or hot juice was served, so I would suggest for the ice dome staff to put hot chocolate on the drinks menu as everyone loves a hot chocolate especially if you are quite fussy like me. The journey is around 1.5 hours however it’s very scenic so sit on the right side of the bus on the way there. Overall really nice experience and worth the money!!

In one word….fantastic. Visiting the ice dome and having lunch inside a real iglo was a lifetime experience. Also a nice presentation given by local Sami guides about food and culture. Next to the domes there was a small ground with a fence that had around 3-4 reindeers that you could photograph from a distance. Really recommended!!

Procedure: approx. 1.5h transfer by coach (approx. 50 people); Arrival with recommended use of the toilet (only 2 toilets available); Reception at the Ice Restaurant with a short video about the Domes and some facts about reindeer; Ice Bar with non-alcoholic ice shot and stories about the polar expedition; about half an hour of free time (you can move freely the whole time, you are not forced to listen all the time); at the exit of the Domes there is an enclosure with 4 reindeer (no petting, no feeding); Afterwards, food (lamb stew or veggie variant) and warm drinks are served in the Ice Restaurant (more portions possible), at the end you are told the departure time of the bus, until then you have free time again; Duration: 10:45-16:00; Guides were friendly, everything was fine; it was interesting but not a real highlight, at least not at this price point. If you have a tight schedule, you could do without it
