Go on an adventurous search for the Northern Lights with an expert local guide who will find the best spot for viewing opportunities on the night of your outing. You will be picked up at the meeting point, and ride away from the pollution of the city lights and into the darkness of the fjords, forests, and mountains. Your guide will choose the best spot within a 350 km area to see the Northern Lights. While waiting to see if the lights appear, enjoy hot chocolate with cake or snacks for a warm and sweet start. Then, if the weather allows, sit by a bonfire and enjoy the Arctic beauty while roasting marshmallows. Your guide will share the facts, stories, traditions, beliefs, and superstitions about the lights as you warm by the fire. When the Aurora Borealis does appear, your guide will take professional pictures and share them with you for free. They will also help you to get the best out of your cameras and even mobile phones. Every guest has a free Aurora portrait included in the tour. You have the option to take more pictures if you want as an additional service. Conclude your tour with a drop-off close to your hotel in the city center. If you are staying at a private accommodation outside of the city center, you can book the drop off at your address when you book your ticket.

The experience starts in the dock in the city center in Tromsø, from there you will take on the arctic night on board MS Polar Adventure. The boat departs at 20:00 and will set course to the destination where the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are the greatest. On board are a variety of warm and cold drinks for you to enjoy and keep you warm, it is self-service and you can eat as many cookies and drink as many coffees as you want. There are also thermal suits available for you to put on for a cold winter night. Photos are not included in this activity, but the crew on board will help you to set up the correct settings on your camera and phone, so you can capture the green lady. You are allowed to bring with you food and beverages, but alcohol is not allowed to take on board. The boat will stay with the Northern Light as long as it can take into consideration the duration of the tour. The boat will return at the same dock right next to Scandic Ishavshotel at 23:30. We cannot guarantee the viewing of the Northern Lights, but if you do not see the Northern Light on your first night, you will be offered a new tour for free on the days we have available places(A new tour is only valid once). Since we do not guarantee to view the Northern Lights, a partial or full refund will not be available if you do not see the Northern Lights. On days when the weather is bad and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are small, we will contact you and ask you to move your booking to another day, so please be available for contact within 24 hours before departure.

For this tour you will be picked up from the city center of Tromsø, from where you will be taken to Camp Tamok, a 90-minute scenic bus drive away. Upon arrival at the camp, you will be provided with warm clothes and boots for the evening. After this, we will go through our safety instructions and give you a practical demonstration on how to drive a snowmobile. You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to switch places during the trip. Even though this tour is not focused on hunting the Northern Lights, being outside on a dark winter evening might give a wonderful opportunity to witness the lights while going out on this adventure. We will be able to make (photo) stops along the way if the Northern Lights appear. After driving back down the trail and parking the snowmobiles, we will serve you a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, it is time to head back to Tromsø and tick this adventure off your bucket list! You will also get the option to book this activity excluding the bus transfer from Tromsø. When choosing this option, we expect you to arrive/leave by own transport at/from Camp Tamok.

The bus is always nearby, so if you get cold during the chase you can return to the bus to warm up. It is recommended that you wear several layers.  The destination for the chase depends on the latest forecast. Sometimes the driver will take you out to the coast, and others times inland. The guide and driver will use their local knowledge to find the most scenic places, where you will have the best chance of experiencing the magnificent aurora.
