Full description

Head to the wilderness in northern Norway on a quest for the best spot to see the northern lights. Drive away from light pollution to different remote destinations, depending on the weather conditions.

After you have met your guide, make a stop to dress up in thermal clothing. During this stop there will be a short introduction and time for you to set up your cameras and listen to some photography tips. Then you’ll start the hunt for the northern lights.

Your guide will decide the route based on the most up-to-date weather forecasts, sometimes driving all the way to the Finnish border. In the region, there are many different microclimates, so it is possible to find clear skies even when it is cloudy in Tromsø.

Once your guide finds the best spot to enjoy the aurora borealis, stop and wait for the lights to appear. If the conditions allow it, you can make a bonfire to keep warm. Relax, enjoy a warm homemade meal, get to know your group, and photograph the amazing natural phenomenon of the northern lights.

During the trip, your guide will help you with your camera and take additional photos to share with you after the trip. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Tromsø.

If there is one tour you must take . It’s this one . Our guide was very determined that we see the lights . She was very knowledgeable and had a plan based upon the forecast . When things didn’t go as per the predicted forecast she didn’t give up !!! She drove around and made sure we saw the lights . Thank you Ellie !! Bonus on the dinner and cookies with hot chocolate. We saw the lights for 4 hours and even saw them dance :) .

Our guide was Ellie for the evening. She was calm, experienced, patient and a great guide. We started off the evening with clouds and snow (!), but thanks to Ellie’s abilities to stay in contact with her network we ended up heading to the coast where we experienced 2+ hours of phenomenal Northern Lights dancing in the sky. The road was covered in snow and she dug out a space for the van with her shovel which allowed us to pitch camp at a beautiful spot near the water. The lights were so strong and changing so fast, at one point we just forgot about taking photos and just lay on the snow staring at the dancing skies above us. Memories that will last a lifetime.

We had a great tour and luckily we could see the first northern lights right at the beginning. In total we were at 3 different spots. Virgil also gave us some helpful tips on how to set the camera perfectly for the conditions. In addition to the spectacle in the sky, there was also a nice campfire, a really delicious homemade vegetable soup, biscuits and hot chocolate to warm up. The shoes and overalls were also perfect so that they didn't cool down too quickly. Overall, a round and successful thing and worth every penny.
