Incredible experience! Sigi was our guide for most of the day and her energy was absolutely delightful from start to finish. It was lovely getting to meet the pups, they're all full of energy and very sweet! The sledding itself can be quite cold if you're not the one driving so make sure you rug up (they do give you suits etc as well). We had a lamb stew with carrots and potatoes for lunch, which was delicious. The camp itself is also absolutely beautiful. Definitely recommend!!

Super trip, super adventure. It was the first time I rode a dog sled and I enjoyed it terribly. The only suggestion is to be more careful in choosing the staff to interact with tourists. The woman at the pick-up of the dogs was very unpleasant and nervous which spoiled the nice time I had earlier. All the rest super

Full description

Depart from the city center of Tromsø by bus and embark on an exciting adventure. After a 90-minute relaxing bus journey, you will enter the remote area Tamokdalen where our wilderness camp is located. Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, you will be warmly greeted by your guide and outfitted with the essential gear including thermal suits, boots, and gloves, ensuring comfort and warmth for the adventure ahead. After preparations and necessary instructions on how to control and steer the sled, the main attraction awaits: set off on your unforgettable dog sledding adventure! On the dog sled ride you will pair up with another guest, with two of you sharing one sled. One takes on the role of musher, guiding a team of energetic huskies through the snowy terrain, while the other enjoys the ride seated on the sled. Halfway, you will have the chance to switch roles, allowing each person to experience both the thrill of leading a team of huskies and the joy of being a passenger. After the dog sled ride, you will have the opportunity to visit our dog yard and indulge in some cuddle time with the huskies. To complete the experience, you can relax and warm up with a hot meal and drink by the open fire inside one of the lávvus (indigenous Sámi tent). With memories made for life, it is time to board the bus again for your return to Tromsø, taking with you great memories of your adventurous day out in the Arctic wilderness.

  • Difficulty Level: High.
  • This advanced dog sledding adventure has been labelled as a challenging activity with high difficulty level. The tour requires strength and fitness from all our guests, and a good physical condition is necessary to participate.
  • Some parts of the trail can be covered with a fresh layer of snow or go uphill which means in both cases you will have to help the dogs to push the sled. The trail can be narrow and have sharp bends, which requires a good balance to steer the sled.
  • Since you will be sharing the sled with another person it is required for both of you to meet these requirements when swapping places halfway the tour.
  • Additionally, you should be prepared for outdoor weather conditions which can be harsh and unpredictable during Arctic winter.
  • Our guides are entitled to deny drivers and passengers to join this tour out of health and safety reason

Even the journey from Tromsø to the camp (90 minutes) was wonderful, spectacular fjord landscapes! Make sure you take up the offer of a change of clothes at the camp! The dog sledding tour is truly magical (if you're lucky with the weather like we were), and it's really tough in parts for those driving the sled! The dogs turn round and expect you to help them on the inclines, i.e. push them... which means running uphill! And never let go of the sled, not even if you fall over (like I did), or even if the sled falls over downhill (like others), otherwise it's gone! 2 people per sledge, you really do ride the thing on your own, what was that at the briefing? When you're back, there's delicious stew (also vegetarian) in a cosy and warm atmosphere, and you can stroke all the dogs if you like... Conclusion: A marvellous experience! Jula and York
