Tromsø: Small-Group Northern Lights Tour
- Small group
- Duration: 6 hours
Hop aboard a minibus and chase the spectacular Northern Lights with an experienced guide. Marvel at the rugged beauty of the Arctic as you explore.
After pickup in the city center, head towards the mountains, fjords, and valleys. Take the route best suited to the weather conditions with clear skies.
With the expertise of your guide, pursue the Northern Lights, sometimes as far as the Finnish and Swedish borders. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience and savor the immense beauty of your surroundings.
Keep your energy up with some hot drinks and snacks, and prepare to take lots of photos on the trip. The guide will also take photos and share them with the group after the trip.
This was one of the most amazing experience I have ever had. The guides were very knowledgable and knew exactly where to go and stop for the best chance to see the lights. We were incredibly lucky that the lights were so active the night we went and the guides ‘chased’ them ensuring we had plenty of opportunities to see them & take pictures. The guide took outstanding pictures and emailed them to me a few days after the tour and helped us get the best possible pictures on our phones. At the end of the night we had hotdogs and marshmallows by the campfire which was nice. They also provided plenty of drinks/snacks along the way and polar suits which meant we stayed warm. The guides were lovely and there was a good atmosphere on the bus with plenty of music/chatting and it was comfortable. Couldn’t recommend enough especially for the price compared to others!
Begin by being picked up from your accommodation in the city center or the tour meeting point. From there, your guide provides you with information about the weather, the lights' activity, your chances for the evening, and expectations to see the lights on that particular night. From there you are taken to a location most suited to the evening's conditions. Groups are sometimes required to travel deep into Finland in order to find a good spot, so remember to take your passport with you. Once you have reached your chosen location, your guides set up a bonfire before helping you with your camera, setting it up to best capture the Northern lights. Throughout your tour, your guides also serve you hot chocolate and snacks. Later, enjoy a picnic-style barbecue during which you enjoy traditional Norwegian fiskekake (fish burgers), or sausages with tortilla bread. Make the most of thi...
The guide was helpful and really passionate about the northern lights and northern Norway in general, he made us feel that we didn’t need to hesitate about asking anything. We had a northern lights parade this night as well.Recommend this trip 100%.
To start the adventure, your driver will meet you at the pickup point at the Scandic Ishavshotel 10 minutes before your scheduled departure. You will hop on the comfortable minibus and enjoy the short 35-minute drive out to the kennel on the island of Kvaløya. When you arrive at the kennel, you will be directed to the equipment room, where you will be kitted out with everything you need including winter suits, boots, and headlamps. You will be able to leave any items that you do not need in the lockers. Once kitted out, you will see the kennel of 130 Alaskan Huskies, who are always excited to meet guests. You will be given a short talk and a demonstration on how to drive a sled and be able to ask any questions that you may have. After everyone is happy with the instructions you will follow your guide up to where your teams are ready and waiting for you. Each pair, one passenger and one...
Fantastic day at the Arctic Adventure. The huskies were so friendly and cute. The sled ride was awesome (the perfect weather conditions was no disadvantage of course!). We really enjoyed Hege's chocolate cake and coffee, and otherwise her warm hospitality. We also had a good briefing of the huskies and what they do during the different seasons. Thanks for a wonderful day!
Depart from Tromsø in the morning, and head out to where the whales are in time to enjoy the short hours of daylight. On the way, take in the breathtaking views of frozen landscapes in comfortable, panoramic lounges, and multi-level decks. Find a selection of food and drinks for purchase on board. The boat uses a hybrid engine to reach the whale’s feeding grounds. As you near the whales the captain will switch to a silent electric engine that allows you to get close without disturbing them. Please note that the duration of this trip depends on the whales’ location and can, therefore, range from 6 to 8 hours. There’s no guarantee, but the tour operator will always do their best to see the whales.
Excellent experience.. we could see the Orcas, the humpbacks and many more sea birds very close and for a long time.. it was a very exciting day.. Very good service from Catamaran..5⭐️

Wonderful hosts, even though it was raining, they made it! I even caught two fish which we cooked and ate on board! Loved it
Prior to every tour your experienced guides will have analysed weather predictions for the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights. With no two nights the same, your guides' enthusiasm and dedication never fades. Drive out into beautiful remote scenery in a custom built 4x4 tour van. Most of the time this is a shorter drive to the surrounding coastal islands of Tromsø, or if needed a longer drive into Finland. Upon reaching suitable skies, you will set up camp for the evening. Some nights the Northern Lights are visible en-route to location, and can last throughout the evening. Other nights require patience and positivity to witness a faint glow across the horizon. Even though the Aurora appears most nights, no forecast can predict what you are going to see, and it's all about taking chances. Staying comfortable on an Arctic winters night is essential. Warm up around the roaring ca...
Me and my girlfriend had an amazing experience. Hannah and Jeff did an incredible job from start to finish and we really had a good time. I highly recommend going with Hannah and Jeff for this magical experience.
Take an unforgettable guided excursion in the north of Tromsø where you will get up-close and personal with friendly reindeer as you hand feed them, learn about the Sami culture, and enjoy a warm lunch with hot drinks. After being picked up in Tromso, take in the scenic views on the way. When you arrive, meet the gentle reindeer. Hand feed them, pet their furry coats, and get plenty of time to capture magical photos with them. Be welcomed into a lavvo-hut (Sámi tent) to warm up. Inside you will be served a range of hot beverages to drink (coffee, tea, chocolate) and a warm meal for lunch. Listen as your guide tells you about the Sami way of life with reindeer. See cultural Sami artifacts and learn some secrets of how to survive in the extreme Arctic environments.
Start this exciting half-day tour with transport from Tromsø. Meet your professional musher, dog sled driver. Once you are well-equipped, the guides will take you for a ride in a sled shared with one or two other guests. Enjoy great views of the mountains surrounding Tromsø, which stretch towards the Balsfjord and Malangen peninsula. After an hour of dogsledding, head back to camp. There, a trained handler will share their stories about animal care, how the dogs are bred and trained, and the history of dogsledding. Cuddle a husky puppy. Then, enjoy a hearty meal of bidos prepared with reindeer meat, broth, and vegetables. A cozy wood fire will be burning in the middle of the tent where a large pot of coffee awaits to warm you up.

Board your comfortable catamaran in the Tromsø city center. As you sail you’ll learn about Norway’s wildlife, fishing, aquaculture, local villages, and weather from your knowledgable guide. Marvel at the Arctic landscape and the beautiful fjords. Take photos from either the indoor or outdoor viewing decks. Enjoy hot coffee or tea, as admire the unique natural setting. If you’re still hungry, there is a kiosk on board to purchase hot expedition meals, snacks, and cold drinks. Late October to late January is when some of the world’s biggest mammals visit the coast outside Tromsø to feed on herrings. During this period you’ll have the highest possibility of seeing a humpback whale, killer whale (orca), or harbor porpoise. You might even get really lucky and see a fin whale. Once you reach the whale feeding site, you’ll have 1-1.5 hours to take a close-up look at the feast. Keep in mind th...
Great trip. Interesting chatting about orcas and the other wild animals. Definitely recommend this company.
This tour offers the perfect combination between a thrilling experience at sea, and a short history lesson alongside the opportunity to spot wildlife such as seabirds, eagles, and sometimes seals or porpoises (small whales in the size of a dolphin). You won’t always see the mammals inside the fjords where this tour navigates, but the stunning nature and fast paced experience is always well received. You will be provided with warm safety suits, goggles, gloves and boots to make this Arctic experience in the fjords as comfortable as possible. Your skipper is both experienced and certified and you will always tour in a small group of no more than 12 people, allowing plenty of space on the boat and plenty of time to ask any questions you might have. Before your tour takes off you will meet at the Base camp in central Tromsø for a briefing and to get dressed in the necessary gear to stay dr...
Loved it! We had 25C! and the water was flat as a mirror. We loved every second of it.

It was so great to sail with Kenneth and Marlena! They know so much about the history, culture and nature of Tromsø and the North. The boat is very comfortable, the food and drinks are delicious and Marlena is a great hostess. Even though we have not seen as many animals as we might have wanted, the beautiful scenery definitely made up for it. Definitely recommend this trip!
