Tromsø: 5-Hour All-Inclusive Wildlife & Bird Fjord Cruise
- Duration: 5 hours
Depart from Tromsø in the morning, and head out to where the whales are in time to enjoy the short hours of daylight. On the way, take in the breathtaking views of frozen landscapes in comfortable, panoramic lounges, and multi-level decks. Find a selection of food and drinks for purchase on board. The boat uses a hybrid engine to reach the whale’s feeding grounds. As you near the whales the captain will switch to a silent electric engine that allows you to get close without disturbing them. Please note that the duration of this trip depends on the whales’ location and can, therefore, range from 6 to 8 hours. There’s no guarantee, but the tour operator will always do their best to see the whales.

Wonderful hosts, even though it was raining, they made it! I even caught two fish which we cooked and ate on board! Loved it
Watch magnificent humpback whales and orcas feed on shoals of herring when they migrate to Skjervoy between November and January. Enjoy a scenic panoramic drive from Tromso to Skjervoy, then hop into a rigid-inflatable boat (RIB) for a once in a lifetime experience in a small group of between 4-12 people. Meet at the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromso bright and early at 6 AM. From here, drive for 3.5 hours to Skjervoy to meet your English-speaking guide. Once in Skjervoy, receive a warm flotation suit before getting into the RIB. Then, set off on a 2.5-hour whale watching excursion in the Kvaenangen Fjord. Marvel at the natural scenery and keep your eyes peeled for orcas and humpback whales, as well as other local wildlife. After your excursion, refresh with some sandwiches, tea, and coffee before driving back to Tromso.
Amazing activity. We were able to watch a large group of orcas very close to the boat and also one humpback whale. The guides acted respectfully around the whales and helped ud to point out the whales. I would warmly recommend the trip, though I must mention it can be rough if you suffer easily from seasickness.
Orcas and Humpback whales are in Skjervoy from November to January. The local provider will pick you up at 6:00 AM outside Scandic Ishavshotel, drive you to Skjervoy, give you warm flotation suits and take you on a once in a lifetime whale watching experience on Rib-boats. Enjoy sandwiches, tea and coffee and continue to the Green Gold Villa in the Lyngen Alps. Here you’ll get a nice and warm group dinner and short photo workshop. Experience the Northern Lights at night and photograph the incredible phenomenon right outside the Green Gold Villa. Accommodation is at one of six private Crystal Lavvos. Next morning, enjoy breakfast together before returning to Tromso at 11:00 AM.
It was the best of our trip this year. Amazing experience, scenery and polar light.
Board your comfortable catamaran in the Tromsø city center. As you sail you’ll learn about Norway’s wildlife, fishing, aquaculture, local villages, and weather from your knowledgable guide. Marvel at the Arctic landscape and the beautiful fjords. Take photos from either the indoor or outdoor viewing decks. Enjoy hot coffee or tea, as admire the unique natural setting. If you’re still hungry, there is a kiosk on board to purchase hot expedition meals, snacks, and cold drinks. Late October to late January is when some of the world’s biggest mammals visit the coast outside Tromsø to feed on herrings. During this period you’ll have the highest possibility of seeing a humpback whale, killer whale (orca), or harbor porpoise. You might even get really lucky and see a fin whale. Once you reach the whale feeding site, you’ll have 1-1.5 hours to take a close-up look at the feast. Keep in mind th...
Great trip. Interesting chatting about orcas and the other wild animals. Definitely recommend this company.
This tour offers the perfect combination between a thrilling experience at sea, and a short history lesson alongside the opportunity to spot wildlife such as seabirds, eagles, and sometimes seals or porpoises (small whales in the size of a dolphin). You won’t always see the mammals inside the fjords where this tour navigates, but the stunning nature and fast paced experience is always well received. You will be provided with warm safety suits, goggles, gloves and boots to make this Arctic experience in the fjords as comfortable as possible. Your skipper is both experienced and certified and you will always tour in a small group of no more than 12 people, allowing plenty of space on the boat and plenty of time to ask any questions you might have. Before your tour takes off you will meet at the Base camp in central Tromsø for a briefing and to get dressed in the necessary gear to stay dr...
Loved it! We had 25C! and the water was flat as a mirror. We loved every second of it.
Sail from the Tromsø city center in the evening. Watch as the beautiful city lights fade into the distance and you enter the darkness of the Arctic Circle. Visit different locations, each one offering a different view of the northern lights. Experience the magic of the aurora borealis– the colors, the movement, and as northerners say, the sounds. Cruise in a comfortable high-quality and stable boat with both indoor and outdoor areas. Relax in the outdoor jacuzzi under the northern lights (available on the MS Leone & MS Strønstad boats) or in the onboard sauna (available on the MS Strønstad).
Great experience with super helpful guide and photographer. Very recommended. We got to see the northern lights and enjoy the jacuzzi.
Board a safari boat in Tromsø for a comfortable 6 to 7-hour cruise to Whale Island and the open sea. Listen to your guide’s commentary about the different fish and whale species that thrive in waters that are filled with herring and plankton. The coast of Tromsø in northern Norway is widely considered among the best areas in the region for spotting whales. You’ll be on the lookout for inquisitive humpback and killer whales swimming and feeding, and for birds such as sea eagles, gulls, guillimots, eider ducks and cormorants. Frame all the action through the lens of your camera. With outdoor decking and indoor seating on board the heated boat, you can enjoy an up-close experience with Norway’s native wildlife.
Great experience! Saw so many whales and orcas + several eagles. After more than two hours watching them we got a really tasty fish soup to warm us up afterwards.
Join local fishermen on an unforgettable fishing trip where you will experience true arctic marine wildlife. Travel outside the city to the best fishing spots in the sounds and fjords where forefathers have been fishing for centuries. The local 'pirates' will tell you old tales and traditions that the ancestors have passed on through the generations. All the equipment you need will be provided on our boat Capella; from the rods and tackles through to warm insulated suits and all safety gear. Experience the power of nature, this is just a fantastic experience. When the fish are biting and pulses are rising from the tension, the thrill of the catch will take you out of your everyday life. This is the only moment that matters, the rest can wait for another day. It's a moment that, when later recounted, the fish will usually get bigger and bigger with the retellings. You will catch the f...
Very friendly and attentive crew. Great fish soup served on the way after fishing completed.
Take in the atmospheric Arctic night in all its majesty, onboard a silent electric catamaran with 360-degree uninhibited panoramas. In warmth and comfort, cruise around Tromsø island, past snow-covered mountains, landmarks like the Arctic cathedral, and through icy waters. Watch as the crew launch an underwater drone with lights to discover the mysteries of the depths below. As the darkness of the ocean reflects the stars above, if you're lucky the Northern Lights may appear. Finally, soak up the unique atmosphere as you sit down to an Arctic Tapas dinner. Savor the fresh and local ingredients, based on traditional dishes with a modern twist.
Very nice meal. They provided us all from the starter, main course, and also the dessert. We really enjoy the peacefulness on the cruise and the guide always called us to watch the northern light when there were something happening outside the cruise.

It was so great to sail with Kenneth and Marlena! They know so much about the history, culture and nature of Tromsø and the North. The boat is very comfortable, the food and drinks are delicious and Marlena is a great hostess. Even though we have not seen as many animals as we might have wanted, the beautiful scenery definitely made up for it. Definitely recommend this trip!
