Few buildings have played a more pivotal role in London's history than its Tower. Boasting a millenium's worth of treacherous tales and host to the exquisite Crown Jewels, it survives as one of the UK's most popular tourist attractions. Keep an eye out for these...
Fun fact: If the ravens ever leave the Tower then it'll fall down! OK, perhaps "fact" isn't the word, but these birds are so important that they even have a designated guard!
The Tower of London guards are commonly known as Beefeaters, and they're more guides than guards these days. Call them Yeoman Warders instead for preferential treatment!
The Jewel House boasts the monarchy's most exquisite treasures, including the Imperial Crown. Admission is included with your Tower of London ticket.
Despite the Tower's grisly reputation, there were relatively few executions. Most of the heads rolled on Tower Hill to the north, where the old scaffold site is commemorated.
OK, this is a tough one, but some famous apparitions include Anne Boleyn and Henry VI! Sightings have dwindled recently, leading to the belief that ghosts don't like tourists...
Near Tower Bridge, the Tower of London's nearest Tube station is Tower Hill on the District and Circle lines. It can also be reached by taking the DLR to Tower Gateway.
There are 12 acres and a lot to see within the walls of the Tower of London. History buffs could easily spend a full day there! Although you could feasibly rush through it in three hours, we'd recommend setting aside at least six to do an official Beefeater tour. Some areas, such as the chapel, can't be accessed any other way!
Tower of London tickets normally cost £22 (with concessions available). However, admission is also included with the London Pass, which comes with the added bonus of not having to queue!
Really enjoyed our trip to London and our package we purchased. We wanted to do the London Eye and hop on hop off bus - the river cruise was an additional extra thrown in and ended up being the highlight. We ended up walking most of the way around the city, only using the bus twice - both times to go just one stop. Magnificent views from the London Eye - but the cruise was just wonderful. We went from Tower Bridge to Westminster. The guy speaking was really funny and the facts super interesting. The baileys hot chocolate on board also delicious. Would absolutely recommend.
Good tour both the recorded guide and the live guide were informative. Currently not all of the stops are stopped at and the bus is intermittent. We weren't told this on booking. We ended up missing out on some of the things we wanted to see and couldn't get to the stops for pickup in the afternoon so walked back and got the tube to places we wanted.
Good day fellow Globetrotters, I would like to give commendation to London tour and to our guide Chris. The tour guide (Chris) is well knowledgeable about the place and its history. He is also very caring for its clients during the tour. By and large, the rating I could give is 5 out 5. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Patrick
Great value for 11 of us and not one had a negative word to say, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment, Joe the pilot was very capable and friendly and Bill, what can we say, a huge character and genuine and knowledgeable with a great sense of humour. Good luck guys and we will be back again
This hop on hop off bus was very convenient! My family and I were able to see all of the sightseeing places we wanted to go to. It's a great way to get around the city and the views on top of the panoramic bus were amazing.
