What to Expect
Make your own woodblock print in a one-hour session in Asakusa workshop!
This facility has decades of experience at coaching people through the process of making a woodblock print. Their system is not 'Printmaking for Dummies', but the method they have created gives excellent results, even for people without previous experience.
Come as you are (shop aprons are provided), and because traditional woodblock printmaking uses no dangerous chemicals or fumes, it's completely safe, so your kids can also join the party (school age and upwards, please). It's great fun watching the colors build up one-by-one as your finished print comes to life!
You will be provided with sets of carved woodblocks, pigments, brushes, moistened paper, and all necessary tools. The cheery young print staff will then guide you through the process of pulling your own prints, working with you until you get it right. You are of course free to take your completed prints home. Make your own souvenirs of your trip to Japan! You can also spend as much time as you like watching the professional print crew at work, or browsing the many beautiful prints and albums on display in the shop. And in case you didn't know it, this facility is the place where the famous Ukiyoe Heroes' woodblock prints are made!
