Full description

Kabuki performances tend to be between 4-5 hours long and often involve long queues for one-act tickets, so before you go to all that effort, join this tour of the Kabuki-za Gallery and learn everything you need to know about Kabuki. With this essential background information, your Kabuki experience will be much more understandable and enjoyable.

Your expert guide, who has been watching Kabuki since the age of 5 and running Kabuki tours for nearly 7 years, will be sure to give you all the information you will need or want to know about this Japanese tradition.

The tour begins with a "What is Kabuki?" presentation over Japanese tea and sweets before exploring the museum. You will be shown many props and costumes used for the shows throughout the years, and enjoy short films about this classical Japanese dance-drama.

There are even hands-on activities such as a chance to play the classical instruments which give Kabuki its distinct sound. As part of the personal concierge service offered in this tour, your guide will also help you make bookings and suggest places to visit based on your interests.

Great introduction to Kabuki

Kazui Yabe is a true passionate professor of Kabuki. Her presentation is intense only because she has filled it with wonderful history and fascinating details and we don’t want to miss a word. Her English is excellent. She have us a richer understanding of the historical context of this art and more, she let us feel and not just understand the respect for tradition and respect for all things in the Japanese culture. It was topped off with tea and dessert, and wonderful as it was did distract us from her lecture believe it or not! Heartily recommended!

Knowledgeable and practical concierge

Excellent experience, from meeting up at designated spot, to expansive and knowledgeable slide presentation about kabuki theatre and its history over a cup of tea. Kazui also helped get tickets for a performance at the theatre the following day, and advice on how to get to the airport on our final day. Well recommended
