Using JR pass to move around Japan is the best investment you can make for your time/money value. I unfortunately encounter the worst case scenario (seriously this have not happened in over 20 years according to my Japanese friend) where the typhoon hit right through the middle of Japan and it affected 300K+ people moving throughout Japan on those dates due to the Obon festival and summer break. Nothing anyone could control so it it’s what it is. Other than that no complaints at all.

The rail pass was there 2 days after ordering. Exchanging the voucher at Narita Airport in Tokyo was easy and quick. I sometimes saw long queues at the exchange points in Tokyo. So if you can, you should do it right at the airport.

I thought it would be more difficult but no, I activated the document that I received for a JR pass for the date I needed arriving in Tokyo and then I realized that it is not necessary to make a seat reservation (only if one wants to) as long as you know the schedule You pass from the train with the pass and you keep it throughout your trip since you use it for each train you take.
