Tiritiri Matangi Island Day Trip from Auckland
- Duration: 8 hours
Im a lone ranger, dont really do tour guides as i like my freedom. Everything was easy to find not a very strenous walk either. I've Been to Nz 3 times and so far Tiritiri is my favourite island. Id stongly recommend staying on the island over night if you can to see it All. its something I'll look into when i come back. God is The Greatest for creating such Beauty and such a marvel. You'llcome across winding pathways. more of a hill walk rhan hiking. bit bring pilkes is a good thing.. some times grass, some manmade tracks and some gritted grounds.. This was a fair price too worth the cost. Trainers are perfect enough for the trek. I'll be Back God Willing
I had an amazing time. I would say 5/5 would love to be back. My only annoyance(slight) was the fact that we were asked to gather up right after getting off the boat for at least 15mins just to get a briefing for the island. I believe a pre-recorded version of this could've been played back on the boat ride itself with any new updates being fed to the crew and them briefing us on our way there.
Worried that there would be too many people walking in the same place as us and the birds would not be comfortable to hang about. Once we were on our walk we barely saw anyone else, and we saw lots of birds, and hopefully we have some great photos. Even saw a Takahe ahead on the track, although it disappeared down a bank before we came adjacent to it.
Loved my day out but was surprised that in the era of coronavirus Fullers had a full capacity of passengers. One of the crew was amused & commented on my ‘gloves’. On our return to the boat that crew member had hand sanitizer offered as we embarked. Yet none was offered as we came on at Auckland.
Very comfortable cruise over to/from the island. Stunning place, done most of the coastal walk but it got very hot so didn’t quite finish. Lots of birds singing but its hit & miss whether you see them or not as they are wild. Good day trip.
