Tiritiri Matangi Island Day Trip from Auckland

1. Tiritiri Matangi Island Day Trip from Auckland

Book your ticket to Tiritiri Matangi Island, a wildlife sanctuary for New Zealand’s native birds and an important conservation project. Visitor numbers are limited in order to protect the island’s wildlife. Begin this 8-hour excursion in Auckland city with a 75-minute ferry ride across the Hauraki Gulf to the island preserve. Explore the island at your leisure, walking along the trails and enjoying the coastline after a ranger orientation. Enjoy informative displays at the visitor center and a complimentary cup of coffee or tea during your visit. See the lighthouse, and in warmer months, head to Hobbs beach for a swim before the return ferry ride to Auckland.

Everything was so well organized. Highly recommend taking a guided walk, you get so much information from the guides. The birdlife is incredible. The bell birds were deafening! The island is just a wonderful experience for young and old. Average fitness will suffice, tracks can be a bit steep, and there are steps, but the pace is leisurely, as you stop for a talk every few minutes. The guides are enthusiastic volunteers, and are full of knowledge. Tip: do put your back pack on the trailer and pick it up after your guided walk. Saves your back!

This was a fabulous trip. The bird life is all around, visible and audible. It is such a treat to be able to see so much wild life. The ferry ride is very well organised, in this covid time, and very quick from Gulf Harbour. To see what volunteers have achieved on Tiri Tiri Matangi over the years and still on going, is to be very impressed. Also there is a good souviner shop. A day to be recommended.

A fabulous day at this very special spot. Passionate volunteers shared so much more than we would have been aware of so the guided tour was well worth the $10. Huge growth of the native bush and bird life since we were there over 10 years ago.

We had two children ages eight and six with us, having mentioned this to one of the volunteers and that we would also like a guide, they arranged a suitable person for us, which made the whole experience really worth while.

It was a Great Day out loved it was a great way to get your excercise
