Þórsmörk ( Thorsmork valley ) private Super Jeep

Þórsmörk ( Thorsmork valley ) private Super Jeep

The destination of the day is Þórsmörk – English spelling Thorsmork, the “Woods of Thor the Thundergod”. It's where the Icelanders traditionally go themselves to get away from it all. Guarding Þórsmörk nature reserve from unwanted traffic are several streams and glacial rivers cutting the rough track. Crossing requires caution. And specially modified vehicles of course. The first highlight of the day is the powerfully beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a good 60 meters of constant rush. Conditions permitting, how about a walk around it – yes, you can go behind Seljalandsfoss. Soon after the road starts disintegrating and nature takes over your senses. Bordering Þórsmörk nature reserve to the south is the famously ash-spewing volcano Eyjafjallajökull, topped by glacial ice and snow. Amongst numerous places of interest on our route is the Gígjökull glacier lagoon which is actually off the maps now. In 2010 it disappeared under volcanic rubble in a catastrophic flood of glacial melt and debris, caused by the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Where we go in the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve depends from day to day on weather and other conditions, but canyons, woodlands and caves are ideal settings for short walks.

We did the south coast tour and sky lagoon and it was worth it. Our Hungarian tour guide (forgot his name)and driver Pako were amazing and we had long enough at each stop. Considering the poor weather our guide kept us in high spirits with his tales, personal stories or Iceland and facts. The tour operation bus tour Iceland were very helpful as when we got to the sky lagoon and 6:30 with transport arranged for 8:30 we were told we could not enter the spa until 7pm. I rang the tour operator and they kindly agreed to move transport back to 9pm to ensure we got our full 2 hours. Highly recommend this tour and this operator especially with the upgraded SER sky lagoon pass. (It is worth the extra!). Improvement could be made on finding out taxi/minibus at the end of the tour as this is different to the coach we arrived on and struggled to find the provided transport in the dark but did eventually.

My Sister and I went on this excursion yesterday (Sat 23 Nov 24) and trip was carried out by BigBus Iceland. Unfortunately we went on a very windy day so the Glacier and Beach were a bit difficult to see everything, however we had an amazing day nonetheless - I would recommend bringing some type of face covering just in case! Sky Lagoon at the end of it all was a blissful experience. I’m sorry but I cannot remember the tour guide and drivers names but they were very informative and helpful through out the trip and the driver at the end of the Sky Lagoon went above by dropping us off right outside of our hotel rather than us walking from the meeting point. Very grateful after a long but wonderful day. I would highly recommend this trip and is absolutely worth the money!

The day trip was amazing! Unforgettable experience. The tour guide was really helpful. When arriving at the sky lagoon there was little explanation on what we need to do so we had to figure that out ourselves. We were told someone would pick us up at 9pm and we spent 10mins walking around the car park trying to find them.

Despite the rainy conditions, it was a lot of fun. Our guide (Dolley) was first class and continued the long trip while it was raining so that we could see more in the sunny afternoon hours. The Sky Lagoon is very exclusive and relaxing. However, a hat against the cold wind is recommended.

It was a lovely day exploring with Unah and Pacco. The sky lounge is stunning and the perfect way to end the long day.
