The tour only included my partner and I which made it so intimate and personal. Silfra itself was breathtaking with a mild but surprising current to keep us moving (which made it feel like you could just float down river with minimal effort). We hadn’t free dived before so tried our best to give it a go! Highly highly recommend!!

Full description

Marvel at Iceland’s hidden underwater world on this freediving tour of Silfra ravine on a tour in Thingvellir. Get geared up in a free-diving wetsuit and be led into the fissure by your guide. Once you get out of the water, return to the car park for some hot chocolate to warm up with.
Upon arrival, get into the dive van which doubles as a changing room. Leave all your belongings in the van for the duration of the tour. Meet your guide who will be with you throughout the diving excursion.
Learn about the route and safety requirements from your guide, before getting in your open cell 7mm wetsuit and equipment. Also, get dryrobe overcoats to use any time you are not in the water. Once your group is ready, head to the staircase and enter the water.
Freedive through Silfra crack at your speed and stay in the water as long as you like. When done, walk back to the changing van and relax with a cup of hot chocolate.

Meeting point

Meet your guide at the Þingvellir National Park at the Thingvellir P5 parking lot. This is where you park your car and walk back 300m to where all dive vans are. Look for the vans with the “Freedive Iceland” logo on the sides.

I am so glad I opted for the free dive rather than a snorkel on the surface. I was able to dive under the water and have a 3 dimensional experience. Our guide was easy going and knowledgeable. Also had a very small group so it felt like a private tour. Highly recommend!
