Full description
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome to the ‘Land of the Thunder Dragon’ at Paro airport. After a briefing about the tour with your guides head to the kingdom’s oldest temple, Kichu Lhakhang for a blessing. Visit the Ta-Dzong National Museum next, which was once the watchtower of the Rinpung Dzong fortress built in 1645 AD, followed by a trip to Rinpung Dxong, also known as the ‘Fortress of the Heap of Jewels.' In the evening drive to Thimphu, a small but charming city nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, then spend the night here to acclimatize to the altitude.

Wake up early on day two and drive towards Sangaygang after breakfast. Upon arrival see the national animal of Bhutan, the takin, followed by an optional walk to the Happiness Garden. Next head to the General Post Office to create personalized postage stamps as a memoir of your trip and then continue onto the National Library next where some of Bhutan’s ancient manuscripts are preserved. There’s also time to visit Memorial Chorten, a favorite spot for locals to pray, chant mantras, and practice their devotion.

On day three head out into the subtropical and glacial valley of Phojikha to marvel at the stunning landscapes across Bhutan. On the way, stop by the Dochula Pass to admire spectacular views of the Himalayas then embark on a 2-hour hike across the refreshing Blue Pine forest. During the hike, visit the Crane Information Center to watch the black necked cranes in their natural habitat. After an overnight stay at Phojikha, wake up to a beautiful morning in the valley on day four and then visit Gangtey Gomba, the largest Nyingma Monastery of Bhutan. Interact with the monks and learn about their way of life at the monastery before receiving a blessing and heading off to Pele La Pass to spot native yaks. Next, arrive at Punakha Dzong, the ‘Palace of Great Happiness’, and walk along the 200-meter suspension bridge above Phochu River to Gidagom Village. Continue with a hike through Metshina Village to Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple.

Day five begins with a coffee at Drukwangyel cafe accompanied by stunning views across the snow-capped mountains followed by a visit to the Dzongdahka Monastery. Watch the locals play a traditional archery match in Paro town and then enjoy a leisurely stroll around to shop for souvenirs and soak up the traditional atmosphere. Wake up on day six with a wholesome breakfast in Paro and hike up the forested path to the Taktsand Monastery, also known as the ’Tiger’s Nest. Learn about the origins of the monastery as well as how it earned its nickname, then enjoy lunch at a hillside cafe against a backdrop of sprawling views. Finally, experience an authentic Bhutanese farewell dinner and learn the art of cooking a variety of traditional delicacies. Top the evening off with a hot stone bath created using heated river rocks and medicinal herbs. Spend a final blissful night in Paro before your departure from the airport in the morning.
