Full description
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome to the ‘Land of the Thunder Dragon’ at Paro airport before traveling to your hotel for refreshments. After a briefing about the tour with your guides, head to the kingdom’s oldest temple, Kichu Lhakhang for a blessing. Visit the Ta-Dzong National Museum next which was once the watchtower of the Rinpung Dzong fortress built in 1645 AD. At the museum, learn about the history of Bhutan and its culture before watching the locals play a traditional archery match in Paro town. In the evening, drive to Thimphu, a small but charming city nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, then spend the night here to acclimatize to the altitude.

Wake up on day 2 with breakfast in Thimphu before driving to Punakha Dzong, also known as the ‘Palace of Great Happiness’. Follow the winding rivers of Paro Chu and Wangchu believed to represent the male and female, then walk across the Punakha suspension bridge. As the afternoon draws to a close, hike to Chimi Lhakhang to the Temple of Fertility, a place where childless couples seek to be blessed. After the temple, head to your accommodation for the night in Punakha and Wangdue, at an altitude of 1240 meters.

After breakfast on day 3 drive to Thimphu, the ‘cultural heartland of the country’, and then visit Sangaygang where you can see the national animal of Bhutan, the Takin. Visit Buddha Gang next to admire breathtaking views across the city of Thimpu and then head to the General Post Office to create personalized postage stamps as a memoir of your trip. The tour continues onto the National Library next where some of Bhutan’s ancient manuscripts are preserved. There’s also time to visit a nearby Craft Bazaar to shop for authentic and local handicrafts and souvenirs, before a visit to Memorial Chorten, a favorite spot for locals to pray, chant mantras, and practice their devotion.

On the final day, fill your stomach with a delicious breakfast to prepare for the hike up to Taktsang Monastery, also known as 'Tiger's Nest'. Learn about the origins of the monastery as well as how it earned its nickname, then enjoy lunch at a hillside cafeteria. In the evening, visit an authentic farmhouse for a farewell dinner in traditional dress as well as a sampling of homemade liquor. At the farmhouse, there’s also the option to relax in a hot stone bath known as ‘Chu Tse’, where river rocks are heated and dunked into a large wooden tub with medicinal healing herbs.
