From start to finish, our guide, Sotiris, was amazing. He knew so much about the area and shared fascinating facts that we never would have learned on our own. Sotiris had a great sense of humor, answered all our questions, and made sure the tour was interactive and engaging.

Full description

The trip will start from your accommodation in Thessaloniki early in the morning. After a 3-hour drive and a stop on the way, your group will reach the little town of Kalambaka right under the Meteora cliffs.

From there, you will head to Kastraki, the closest village to the monasteries and then to the observation points to take some amazing photos. You will visit Gran Meteoro Monastery which is the largest of them all, and then a second monastery depending on your liking.

See the old temples and various spaces of the monuments, the way of life of the monks in the past, the magnificent views from the peaks of these cliffs and the great panorama that the area offers. (Please note that if you will need guidance from an official tour guide inside the monastery, it can be arranged at an extra cost).

After your visit, your tour leader will take you to Kalambaka, where you can have a rest and enjoy a coffee, drink or snack. Later, start your return drive to Thessaloniki.

We booked 2 tours and both were amazing. The Street Food Tour with Akis was filled with wonderful conversations around the history, culture, and day to day life in Thessaloniki while eating the delicious local foods of Greece. Akis is very knowledgeable and a treat to be with. We also visited Meteora with Pascalis, who is also very knowledgeable of the history of the monasteries. He is a wonderful guide providing lots of information and colorful conversations along the way to Meteora. I highly recommend you pick Salty Soil for any of your tour needs. They are the BEST.
