We were the only guests on this tour due to Covid-19. Thank you very much for not cancelling the route. Our guide was a studied archaeologist who provided some insights and could answer questions that came up after the various stations. We left at 8:15 from Thessaloniki and returned by 15:00. We have to add that the guide carried a little bit of body odor, and generally we wondered about the timing. At 12:30, we were done with both Pella and Vergina, and while the subsequent lunch break in Vergina was pleasant, we'd rather have spent more time on history before returning. Given that all museums in Thessaloniki close at 16:00, we then filled the afternoon with a bike ride.
Excellent museum both at Pella and Vergina. Both were well presented and interestingly labelled, though Vergina was darker and as a result signs not so easy to read. The archaeological site at Pella was interesting and because we had gone to the museum first the ruins made more sense. We were fortunate in travelling as a small group by car and had in consequence considerable flexibility. Our driver/tour manager was full of information when required but also gave us plenty of freedom to explore for ourselves. A very good day.
Beautiful journey to Mount Olympus and the ancient city of Dion. Stunning view of the mountains, the trip was great because our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about culture, Lazaros ensured that he was always available to guide us with excellent information and he really made the experience really fun and memorable. We walked through a canyon at Mount Olympus and I particularly enjoyed the scenery there, really stunning. Thank-you Lazaros for giving us a great day.
The trip to Mount Olympus was very interesting. During the trip we visited the beautiful archaeological site of Dion, with the suggestive theater and then the interesting archaeological museum, always in the city of Dion. Subsequently, we made the excursion to the beautiful waterfall on the slopes of Mount Olympus. A particular appreciation to mr. Demetrios, companion of the Ammon Express for the interesting news and the courteous and valid management of the whole trip. Dino and Paola
This was an absolutely unforgettable day to the home of the 12 Gods. From the moment we met at the White Tower to being dropped off we had a fantastic time, made even more memorable by one of the best tour guides we have had the pleasure to meet, the amazing Dimitris. He brought the history of Dion and Olympus to life, both with his stories and his wider meditations on life.
