Full description
Learn how an observatory works on a 1.5-hour tour of Mount Teide Observatory on Spain’s tallest mountain and discover one of the highest volcanoes in the world. The Canary Islands has been named one of the 3 best spots in the world to observe the sky (along with Chile and Hawaii) and the Teide Observatory is currently the largest solar observatory in the world. It contains many solar and nocturnal telescopes, owned by various European countries. After an introduction about the different areas of the observatory, watch a short video about the Canary Islands' sky and learn how the scopes work at night. Then, an astronomy expert will explain what astrophysics is and how astrophysics work. Observe the sun through 2 different scopes; one to see the sunspots and the other for solar flares. Get into a professional scope to explore its history and understand how it works.

The information given by the guide was very interesting. Also the entire place is worth visiting just to get an idea how it all works. It is definitely worth going there, especially for people who normally don't have this chance to see such telescopes. Nevertheless, we expected to look at the Sun through these huge telescopes. We were disappointed with these very small telescopes (for tours they use small standard telescopes), because the view was not spectacular at all. Red color and nothing more. So don't expect to see explosions on the Sun or anything else :) but besides this, I think this was a nice tour and I would go again, this time for the night sky.

Don't miss it!

In contradiction to the "tourist trap" of endless waiting and chaos to get a ride with the Teide cable car, we can strongly recommend to book a guided trip to the observatory. Very well organized together with a guide - Jesus - who's extraordinary positive enthusiasm and skills in astronomy affected all of us! Don't forget to bring warm clothes, shoes, hat and gloves :)

Great tour!

We were at the beginning of October for a tour of the Teide Observatory. Steffi, our tour guide, explained everything to us very well. We took away a lot of interesting facts, not only about the stars, but also about Tenerife. The booking was easy, we were very happy about the printed ticket! Everything perfect! Highly recommended!
