Highlights

  • Experience the thrill of coasteering the Pembrokeshire coast around Tenby
  • Discover spectacular sea caves, secret pools, jumps and swirly bits
  • Swim through the water and take in the stunning views of the coast

Full description

Coasteering is a unique opportunity to explore rarely visited corners of the coast with one of our expert guides. Coasteering is an adaptable activity that can be pretty adventurous or really quite mellow. Experience a combination of wild-swimming and rock-scrambling, exploring nooks and crannies, caves and pools, playing around with swell, and jumping (if you want!) into deep water. You might encounter seals, munch on seaweed and learn about sponges, crabs and birdlife.

This activity is suitable for anyone from 8 years old, as long as they can swim and do some light scrambling. You don't need to be a dolphin, being able to confidently swim 25m is generally sufficient. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility, and being happy messing about in the sea are handy.

Our Coasteering routes are amazing – some of the best in the world, featuring jumps (completely optional, but EPIC!), swim-throughs, spectacular caves, swirly play spots and tucked-away secrets of the coast. Jumping is often seen as a main part of coasteering, but it's just one aspect, and participants can choose not to jump at all. Leaping from a safe rocky platform into clear, blue water is gently encouraged.

Expert guides lead this adventure. They are exceptionally experienced, equipped with the latest safety gear and trained to the highest levels. They have led thousands of coasteers and undergo extensive training. Guides carry all safety kit recommended by the National Coasteering Charter and lead guides are also equipped with satellite locator beacons. The focus on safety is paramount, with an impressive safety record of taking over 30,000 people coasteering safely.

Participants are provided with specialist coasteering wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. They need to bring their own footwear (trainers are perfect, beach shoes are ok if they’re secure and have decent soles). Additionally, bringing a pair of shorts to wear over the wetsuit for padding and wetsuit protection. Participants should also bring a towel and a changing robe is useful as changing facilities are not always available.

Half-day sessions typically involve being in the water for between 2 and 2.5 hours. Rain does not affect the activity, but strong winds or large swells might lead to route changes or postponements. If a session is rescheduled or cancelled and the participant cannot attend, a full refund is provided.

Meeting point

For the majority of the year, we base our coasteering at Lydstep Headland (10 mins from Tenby) where we’ve explored a selection of spectacular routes. Lydstep is a great place to meet us with a free and rarely busy carpark just 2 mins from the start of the coasteer. Navigation Links: Firstly - ignore the map provided by GetYourGuide, it is wrong! Use these links: - https://maps.app.goo.gl/ay629CJGX9rnhYbb7 (Google Maps) - samplers.congas.entire (what3words) Directions: From Tenby, drive past Lydstep Holiday Park into Lydstep village, turn left 75m after the Lydstep Tavern. Head down the bumpy lane for about 500m and turn right at the blue ‘parking’ sign after the cottage. From the Manorbier/Pembroke direction, the turn is on the right ~170m after entering the village. Occasionally weather conditions make another location more suitable – if that’s the case, we’ll get in touch ahead of time with details for the alternative venue.

Important information

What to bring

  • Closed-toe shoes

Know before you go

  • Suitable for adults, groups, and families
  • Bring some footwear - Trainers are the absolute best thing to wear coasteering – they’ve got good grip, thick soles and are secure on the foot. Wetsuit boots are ok (you want a decent sole though) and beach-shoes/reef-shoes can be adequate IF they’re secure and have a decent, thick sole! You really, really don’t want to lose a shoe mid-coasteer.
  • We also ask everyone to bring a pair of shorts to wear OVER their wetsuit. This serves two purposes – you look great (ish) but mostly you get a bit of padding and your wetsuit gets a bit of protection.
