Aegina Island & Temple of Athina Aphaia Private Day Tour

9. Aegina Island & Temple of Athina Aphaia Private Day Tour

Why this tour? If you are in Athens, traveling to Aegina (Aigina) island is one of the best island day getaways but also a real Greek experience. A perfect Private day trip to the pristine beaches of an authentic destination without the “hordes of tourists” but with small-scale beauty and simplicity. Looking for an authentic experience? The boat trip, the island feeling, the food & drink, the culture & history? It is all there! Meet your private driver/tour leader for your 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. departure to the port of Athens, Piraeus. We board the ferry for a 1h10 min ride with great views of little islands and the Athens riviera. Aegina is a lovely island at a close distance from Athens. This is why it gets very popular as a weekend destination for the Athenians. The most important sight in Aegina Greece is the Ancient Temple of Athena Aphaia, constructed in the 6th century BC. The Aegina port where the ferry arrives is the central meeting point for the locals with several coffee shops, restaurants, and beautiful pedestrian narrow streets. While exploring, you will of course encounter the famous Aegina pistachios. The island is covered by pistachio trees! The Temple of Aphaia is one of the major attractions that one can see on the island of Aegina. Built on a hill, at 160 meters, it is surrounded by pine trees and it stands out for its unique energy. Since prehistoric times (1300 B.C.) it has been a unique place of worship! One of the most visited sites on Aegina is the church and monastery of Agios Nektarios. Agios Nektarios was known as a great miracle worker, particularly as a healer of every sort of disease, he was also a prolific writer, theologist, philosopher, moralist, educator, poet, ascetic, and mystic. On the southern edge of the island lies the small fishing village of Perdika. This is perhaps one of the most picturesque spots on the island and still has the characteristics of the Aegean style of square houses and narrow streets. Many tavernas to enjoy fresh fish next to the water. Your tour leader will recommend the best location for an authentic lunch right next to the water before returning to the return boat trip. Optional: From the Perdika fishing village you can take a small boat to the island of Moni. A very short boat ride (10 min) to Moni island for swimming (or not) in the crystal-clear waters of the beach and for drinks. Depending on the time of the year, you could enjoy an undistracted sunset while cruising back to Athens.

Great trip. The stop at Poros was very short and could probably be skipped all together. Hydra and Aegina were beautiful and we did a donkey ride while at Hydra. Sit on the top deck of the ferry as much as possible. The views were incredible. Highly suggest this trip!
