Full description
On this full-day tour to the Judean desert and the shores of the Dead Sea including Masada, the site of one of the most remarkable stories in Jewish history. Perched on a high plateau, the ancient fortified palace of Masada became a refuge for Zealots who took a stand against the Romans, until the mass suicide of the Zealots in 73 AD. The ruins sit precariously on a plateau some 1,300 feet above sea level and measure 2,000 foot long by 1,000 foot wide. They boast extraordinary views of the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert. It is an exhausting climb, but you will ascend by cable car to make life easier. Explore the fortress built by King Herod in around 37 BC. Visit the remains of the palaces and see mosaic floors, Roman baths and other findings. Masada was also home to the oldest synagogue in Israel, but one of the most remarkable features are the 12 water cisterns, each with a capacity of up to 140,000 cubic feet. Following the tour of Masada, you will drive to the Dead Sea Mineral Beach. Located in the Jordan Rift Valley, between Jordan and the West Bank, it is the lowest place on earth and its high density of salt makes for a unique experience as you float on the beautiful aquamarine surface. Take a mud bath and benefit from the therapeutic qualities of the natural Dead Sea mud. You will then drive back to the hotel in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv with an en route view of the Qumran cave, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.

Tour plan and tour guides were excellent. Overall enjoyed a lot. Only complaint is that the “larger” tour travels in a very confortable bus, whereas the “small-tour” goes on a uncomfortable and tight van. So, overall, can’t really say the small tour was any better than the cheaper regular “large group” tour. As for the tour was totally worth it.

Overall a great tour with some obstacles

Unfortunately I only had to wait half an hour at the hotel. Only after tel. Contact came after 5 minutes, a taxi that took me 5 minutes. Brought later at the assembly point. My mistake, they had forgotten me. Then it turned out that I didn't book a small group tour, but Economy with a large bus, but with few tourists. Then it started. The tour guide was very competent and told a lot of details about Masada. She also responded flexibly to the needs. Then it went to the fool sea, or mass tourism. Nevertheless, this experience in the water was great. Overall, we had enough time to experience both highlights sufficiently. Back there were problems with the taxi transfer to the Hitels. However, the tour guide was able to solve this problem competently

I really liked

Even knowing that I would already have a stop at the AHAVA store (which I would have preferred not to have), it was quick and didn't interfere with the day. The tour of Masada and the Dead Sea was very interesting and helpful, the van was comfortable and the guide excellent. Too bad I don't remember her name, because it was difficult. The lunch spot in Masada is the same as every tour and the food is quite expensive. We took some snacks and only bought drinks there, as it was simple food and very expensive! I just think that the van should have water, although in Masada it was available.
