Unique rock formations formed millions of years ago, houses carved into these rocks, early Christian churches, cathedrals and many other religious structures make Cappadocia one of the most important tourism centers of the region and Turkey. Open air museums in the region, rare valleys for hiking and interesting volcanic rocks that astonish those who see it, are absolutely beautiful enough to amaze visitors. Cappadocia, which hosts many places worth seeing underground as well as above ground, is home to more than 10 underground cities ready to be explored, especially Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu. Paşabağı, which gained fame as the living space of monks who made important contributions to the people of the Christian region with their religious teachings and lifestyles centuries ago. Zelve, which is visited as an open-air museum today and is one of the first settlements of the people of Göreme. Avanos, which is home to Turkey's largest river and the region's most important water source, Kızılırmak, is famous for its local handmade arts and potteries.
