Full description
The tour starts at 9am heading to the eastern part of Georgia, 96 km from Tbilisi towards Mtskheta. Mtskheta was the capital of the Eastern Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the third century BC, and is one of the oldest towns and the cultural and religious center of Georgia. Next, visit the Jvari monastery, a true architectural masterpiece of the early medieval period built on a hilltop. From the hill, gaze down to the merging Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers below, and enjoy a stop to take photos. With your local guide, continue onto Gori, the homeland of Stalin, to visit Stalin’s house, museum and train wagon. At the Stalin museum, learn about the life of the infamous dictator at the exhibit which includes unique photos, gifts and furniture. After the museum there’s time for lunch in the city of Gori, with the option to choose between dining at a Georgian restaurant, or having lunch with a local family with private wine cellar to taste traditional Georgian wines. After lunch head to the cave town of Uplistsikhe, named “Fortress of the Lord”, situated on a rocky mount on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The fortress is mentioned in chronicles dating back to the earliest of times, and its history began in the I-II millennium B.C. Uplistsikhe was an important religious, political and cultural center in the Hellenistic and the late Antique periods, and it has been identified as one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia. Enjoy an interesting walking tour here of the rock-cut structures, including and amphitheater. Lastly, visit the Svetitskhoveli cathedral, a sacred place where the robe of Christ is being kept, a masterpiece of the Early Middle Ages, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The places are beautiful and more amazing was the Gamarjoba guide. George Goldman was very knowledgeable. He kept us entertained with history, facts and stories all the time. Stalin Musem, The oldest and only non symmetrical church in the world, The cave complete were intriguing. The highlight was lovely lunch & wine with the local Georgian family. They were very welcoming and loving.

Those trips are personalized and the guides were taking care of us even before the trips, writing earlier with information where we are meeting, how to get there, answering the questions, reminding about the trips. In that way it is really worth the price. In Tbilisi you can buy trips cheaper but it was very worth to have this care. On that trip we were the only ones with a guide and driver so basically it was a private tour :). Guides were young, nice and had big knowledge, it is obvious they likes what he does. On the trip we had some people speaking Spanish and some English so there were two guides, one with Spanish for those two customers. That was nice! Generally they were very nice and I do recommend the trip

It was amazing. George, my guide, was very professional, he knows a lot about everything. He made everything possible to have a wonderful day: like I said, he was very professional, but also very friendly and funny. So far, this has been, if not the best, one of the best tour I have ever taken. I won’t doubt about taking another tour with George and his crew.
