Tbilisi: Cooking Class with a Local Family

I know - no one believes 5 stars but… I would have given 10 if allowed. This in home cooking tour was like no other cooking tour I had ever experienced. I was driven to the home by the tour company and greeted by Beka the cooking tour operator. The tour started in a lovely garden with a glass of wine and grapes picked fresh from the vines. There were six people in the group but enough food for 20. We had traditional Georgian dishes like Khinkali (dumplings) and Ajapsandali (stew) fresh tomato and cucumber salad and 2 types of Khachapuri (cheese filled bread) we all participated in the actual preparation of the meal and sat down to a feast! 2 types of wine and a shot of vodka were a fun addition to the meal. Sooo much more than I ever imagined. Beka is a true Georgian toast master. He regaled us with stories of Georgian traditions and multiple toasts. He choose traditional Georgian music to accompany the dinner. I would highly recommend Beka and his fabulous hospitality!!!

My tour guide was Nicolas. He was super friendly and knowledgeable, with a real passion for food and culture. We had great conversations, not just about Georgian cuisine but also about traditional dances. The cooking experience was a blast—you get to make iconic Khinkali dumplings, crispy Mchadi fried cornbread, eggplant rolls with walnuts (nigvziani badrijani), and some cheesy Khachapuri. Highly recommend!
