Full description
Go on a one-day tour to the David Gareja Monastery complex. This short but eventful journey will allow you to explore one of the most ancient and important religious sites in Georgia. Davit-Gareja cave city, an extraordinary site with fantastic semi-desert landscapes, is located 100km south-east from Tbilisi, and it was founded in the 6th Century by David (St. David Garejeli). The complex of temples stretches for several kilometers in the south-east of the country and along the border with Azerbaijan. The David Gareja Monastery is unique due to the fact that many of its buildings are cut into a huge tilted rock and some of its temples still preserve millenary frescos. Be ready to walk and climb on uneven ground. The walking route last approximately 8 km (5 miles). On the way back, you will stop at a nice cozy house for lunch (not included) and for a wine tasting.

Done this with a small group of 5. The main highlight of the tour was the most challenging hike I have so far. I wouldn't have done it at my age but witht he very positive energy of our guide Alex who had been really reassuring throughout the journey we all made it. It was all worth it. The rest of the tour was all very informative and Alex made the trip very lively with his friendly and very engaging personality. The journey ended with a bang of wine tasting in Vineria Khakheti. That winery is something else and a must visit. it definitely will give you different twist to your wine experience, one you shouldn't miss.

We had a great time with our personal guide Alexsi. The drive there was smooth and we got to learn more about Georgia and the history behind the monastery. The area was beautiful and difficult to reach on our own. We would definitely recommend this trip. Go for the wine tasting at the end as well. It's a fantastic way to end the trip
