Full description

Explore the rainbow-like mountains of Georgia on this 4WD safari tour. Feel like Indiana Jones as you speed through the colorful mountains and visit the David Gareja Lavr monastery, as well as the St. John the Baptist cave monastery.

Departing from Tbilisi, start your journey with a low-difficulty 1-hour walk among the colorful hills around the lake. This is one of the best places in Georgia for bird watching, and specialists from all over the world come here during the season. If you don't want to hike, you can just enjoy the beauty of the area and snap some great photos.

Next, head to the monastery of St. John the Baptist, a cave monastery founded in the 6th century in the desert. Get acquainted with the lives of the monks who live here and visit the church and tower which are built in the cave. You can even see the border with Azerbaijan from the tower.

Finally, head to the oldest monastery in the desert, David Gareja Lavra. On the way back to Tbilisi, stop for lunch at a desert restaurant and enjoy a tasting of Georgian wine.

The tour and the guide named Koba were amazing. We didn’t see any other tourists until after noon probably due to the bad conditions of the roads. However, we always felt save and learned a lot from Koba. Only the wine tasting missed expectations. The lady from the winery was not that enthusiastic, but apparently that always differs depending on the person there. Still highly recommended.

One of the most amazing tours we had in Georgia! Our guides were fun, very friendly and easy going. They took us to places where we didn't bump into any other tourists, it was just our little group! I definitely recommend them, you will visit places you couldn't visit by yourself, because it's really really off-road and no other tour operators are organising trips there! Note: if you are car sick, do prepare with some pills, I did get a bit dizzy and uncomfortable towards the end (but I always do in cars/buses) but it does wort it, trust me!! :D

This is a very informative tour in a small group with great guides! The rainbow mountains are soooo unique!!! We were the only people there (Tuesday). David Gareja was okay, unfortunately we were only allowed to have a look at one church from the inside. We weren't allowed to go to the caves. But we visited another smaller monester before, and this was an even better experience. Not touristic, really really wonderful! The wine tasting afterwards was great to deliver more variety during the whole day. Fazit: well organized, great crew, unique spots! I definetly recommend and would do this tour again.
