Mexico City: Private Cacahuamilpa Caves and Taxco Tour

1. Mexico City: Private Cacahuamilpa Caves and Taxco Tour

The first stop on your tour will be to the caves of Cacahuamilpa. You will enter through the huge rock door to contemplate the majestic scenery formed by the erosion of the water and the movements of the earth. You will then walk through the corridors and enjoy the sensation of penetrating the mountain to discover figures of animals, faces, buildings, and the customs of the Chontal tribes to honor their gods of the underworld. You will then go to the magical town of Taxco to eat at the Hotel Monte Taxco. After lunch, you can take the cable car (not included). Following this, you will take a walk through the city and visit the oldest mining center on the continent, which still stores silver mines that date back to the Colonial Era. Next, you will visit the ex-convent of San Bernardino and the Temple of Santa Prisca, which is a clear example of the fact that the town still retains its colonial style. The church there, which was built in approximately the 18th century, is of Novo-Hispanic Baroque style. You will then have free time to visit Humboldt House, where the famous German expeditionary stayed, and which is currently home to the Museo del Arte Virreinal. Following this, you will visit the different workshops, goldsmiths, and museums of this city (which is also called the City of Silver). At the conclusion of your educational and cultural day out, you will return to Mexico City at approximately 6:00PM.

Javier drove us on a truly private tour to see the caves and the city of Taxco. On the way there he first told us about different parts of Mexico City, and then the other areas we drove through like Cuernavaca on our way to Cacahuamilpa, mentioning what kinds of people the different cities attracted. The caves themselves were breathtaking and humongous, pictures cannot capture how large the space in the caverns is. Taxco was a beautiful city with a rich and interesting history explained to us by another private tour guide through the city. The 3D landscape of the city make it funnily feel like it should be near a body of water, when in fact its surrounded by mountains. The lunch we had in a secluded part of the Taxco restaurant with its spectacular view was one of our favorite parts of our Mexico trip. Javier was friendly, funny, informative, and always happy to answer any questions we had about the areas and Mexico more generally.

Very nice and interesting tour. It is a private tour therefore very flexible in travel. We were accompanied by Xavier, a truly kind person who made us spend a fantastic day. The caves are super interesting and beautiful an experience to do. Xavier will accompany us to the entrance where a guide will then make you go around the whole tour (2km to go and 2km to exit but don't worry, it's done without any problem). From there you then move on to the silver city where a guide will always accompany you to show you the main monuments and places of the city and then leave you free to continue the walk on your own and buy some silver objects. In general everything is very nice!!!!

We took a private tour with a very knowledgeable guide, who let us spend more time in the caves. The caves are amazing and surreal up to 70 m height, and are one of the largest in the Americas. The pictures don't fully describe the feeling. Definitely worth visiting. Taxco is a nice and picturesque colonial town.

Our guide was really helpful - translating the guided tour in the caves into English. The caves are massive - a long walk but worth it. Taxco is beautiful
