Discover Taupo's Maori Rock Carvings, possibly the largest of their type in the world and only accessible by boat. Enjoy sailing Lake Taupo at its best (and quietest) with New Zealand's only commercially operated electric yacht. Set off with a friendly and experienced skipper. Make yourself at home on a lovingly restored classic white sailing yacht, which set the scene for a wonderful experience on stunning Taupo Moana (Lake Taupo). Sit back and relax as your fun and experienced guide explains the 800-year-old cultural significance of the 14-meter high Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings.  Soak up the sun or you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. Equipped for all conditions - if the wind dies down, the eco-friendly electric engine will kick in, moving you noiselessly through the water. When the wind is up, you can enjoy sailing without salty sea spray and noisy outboard motors. Snuggly warm ponchos are supplied for cooler days.

A really beautiful morning out - even if we went blessed with clear skies and a gentle breeze! Chris was full of interesting information - but also let us sit back and just enjoy the sail in peace. The electric motor was required most of the time as the wind was just non existent! The boat was big enough to move around easily, coffee, tea and milo available to make yourself - even a toilet if needed. Ideal for couples or families. Highly recommended.

Excellent trip across the water to the carvings which are amazing! The boat is very smooth so no worry for boat sickness, although it was a lovely day. Be aware that the sun/weather can be quite different on the water so bring your sun screen with you. I did not and got burnt ha! Also, wear your swimming attire onboard as you get a little swim by the carvings.

Location of the departure point was easy and our welcome by the skipper was friendly. It was a small group about 10 which was perfect for the size of the boat. We felt very relaxed. Due to heavy rainfall on the day we were advised our sailing craft would be exchanged for a motorised vessel with warm indoor seating. We were very happy. The waters were calm and fir the majority of the trip we were able to be outside as the rain held off till our return to the harbour.
