As you glide through the lake on your deluxe Catamaran, you’ll come to a massive carving depicting the traditional facial tattooing of the Maori people. Inspired by centuries of rich Maori tradition, artist Matahi Brightwell carved the elaborate relief into the side of a cliff directly above the lake’s pristine waters in 1980. Depicting one of his grandmother’s ancestors, the carving represents a triumph of Maori artistry and the continued preservation of indigenous culture. After visiting the Maori Rock Carvings, watch as the crew gives a trout fishing demonstration by setting some fishing lines and talking about the various fishing options allowed on Lake Taupo (if option selected). At the end of the trip, you’ll head back to the dock to disembark.

Start your day in style with a complimentary pick-up from your accommodation in a stretch Hummer. Head to the drop zone, a 10 minute drive from the town center. On arrival, let the experienced and friendly team look after you. Go through the safety briefing and the available video/photo options. Be kitted up with all the equipment you need for a safe experience. You even get a free buff headband to wear during the jump and have as a keepsake.  Your skydive begins with a scenic plane ride up to 12,000ft, 15,000ft or 16,500ft (depending on the option you choose). You’ll begin to get incredible views of Lake Taupo, Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe – also known as Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings. Once you’ve reached altitude, the doors will open, you’ll sit on the edge of the plane with your tandem master seated behind you. After exiting the plane you will free fall at speeds of 200 kilometres per-hour for 45, 60 or 70 seconds. At 5,500 feet your tandem master will deploy the parachute and you can catch your breath while taking in the stunning views of the Lake Taupo area. You will then float back to earth with a relaxing parachute ride with your tandem master, arriving safe and soundly back at the drop zone. Once back on the ground it’s time for a high five and a hug. Your day of adventure starts at first light with a scenic drive to Mangatepopo, the start of the Tongariro Alpine Hike. Your local guide will provide weather information, a map, and an information sheet before sending you on your journey. Your 20km hike follows spring-fed streams to the base of the Devils staircase. A steep ascent will reward you with your first views of Mt Taranaki and the breathtaking landscape. The hike continues past old lava flows, vast craters, and dramatic rock formations. You will cross the Red Crater Ridge to admire the Emerald Lakes, before descending to see the lakes up close. Your 6-8 hour hike comes to an end in Ketetahi car park where your shuttle will wait for you between 2-4 pm. A comfortable air-conditioned bus ride will take you back to Lake Taupo where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Discover Waimangu Volcanic Valley on a self-guided walk or hike with an entry ticket. This spectacular natural attraction is just a 20 minute drive south of Rotorua or 40 minute drive north of Taupo. Check-in at reception then enter the valley at your leisure between 08:30 and 15:00.  Explore the walking and hiking trails through Waimangu at your own pace, with a range of options for all abilities and ambitions. Wind through the geothermal landscape and admire panoramic views over natural attractions including Frying Pan Lake, Inferno Crater Lake and Lake Rotomahana. Discover sweeping geothermal terraces, hot springs and steam vents all set amongst a beautiful native forest and grassland. Keep watch for native wildlife unique to Waimangu's geothermal terrain.  If you’re looking for a bit more of an expedition, opt for an invigorating hike along the Mount Haszard Hiking Trail. Journey high above the valley floor for superb panoramic views of the unique landscape. At the end of your walk or hike at Lake Rotomahana, you will return to the reception area by complimentary shuttle bus to conclude your independent tour. You can also use the regular shuttle bus to transfer between bus stops in the valley, reducing walking distances.

Discover the natural wonders at Orakei Korako, also known as Hidden Valley, which boasts the most active geysers of any geothermal park in New Zealand. Wander through the unspoiled thermal valley at your leisure surrounded by an array of vibrant colors, bubbling hot springs, mud pools, and gushing geysers.  Somewhat 'off the beaten track', the Hidden Valley lies nestled in the Taupo Volcanic Zone between Taupo and Rotorua. Begin your visit at the visitor center, from which you will also need to take a short ferry ride to access the geothermal area.  You then set your own pace to explore the geothermal activity in the park, but don't miss the extremely rare geothermal cave Ruatapu Cave (Sacred Hole) that plunges some 35 meters down to a beautiful clear hot pool at the bottom.  This a great day out for the whole family, and your dogs are welcome at the park too.
