Learn about sheep farming in Tasmania on a full-day tour of the Curringa Sheep Farm, and meet indigenous Australian animals at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Taste local jams and cheese, tour the quaint town of Richmond, and more.
What to Expect
This fascinating full-day tour visits one of the largest family-owned sheep farms in south Tasmania to learn how farming in the region is diversifying to grow crops. At certain times of the year, you will even see opium poppies.

Travel the backroads from Hobart, taking in some great countryside scenery and air. You will head to Hamilton for a 2-hour tour of the Curringa Sheep Farm that ends with a tasting of some of the local jam, served on freshly made scones with cream and morning tea. First, you will watch and learn how to shear sheep, meet the working farm dogs, view crops in season, and enjoy a forest walk.

Then, make your way to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where you will hear all about the facial tumor that threatens the native Tasmanian Devil, a lovable creature despite its alarming screech! Discover how the sanctuary is helping to rehabilitate them back into the wild. Meet the local wombats - and even a few of the native snakes - and feed the adorable wallabies as you marvel at the beautiful bird life.

Next, go to Richmond to see the last remaining Georgian town in Australia. Explore the quaint, convict-built homes and pop into craft stores. Richmond also has the oldest convict-built bridge and oldest operating catholic church in Australia.

En route back to Hobart, one last treat awaits. Visit the boutique Wicked Cheese Company, where the handmade artisan cheeses have won awards across Australia, and are made from hormone-free, chemical-free milk from grass-fed cows.
