Arusha: Tarangire National Park Full-Day Wildlife Safari

4. Arusha: Tarangire National Park Full-Day Wildlife Safari

We will collect you from your hotel in Arusha and following a 2-3 hour drive, you will arrive at the Tarangire National Park. In this region, Hemmingway often went on big game hunting safaris. After the formation of the national parks in 1970, they turned the seasonal marshes and the endless savannah that one sees today into, once again, profitable hunting grounds. Today however, cameras thankfully have replaced the elephant guns. The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in North Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals. The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river for drinking. If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with a little luck, you can also spot a python! This area is during the dry season also a haven for bird watchers with over 550 different species including the Masai Ostrich -the world largest bird. Around lunchtime, you will stop at a suitable picnic place before the afternoon is dedicated to more wildlife watching. Before sunset, you will be taken back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

What people are saying about Tarangire National Park

Overall rating

(8 reviews)

I had such a great time on this safari!! Our drivers/guides were entertaining and informative and happy to stop for pictures as much as we wanted. Of course they make a lot of effort to find lions since that is the big attraction, but we were lucky enough to see two rhinos quite close, which was a delightful surprise. Was such a magical experience that made me feel like a kid at Disneyland. And we had good local food for lunch (we saw the packed lunches other groups had that looked awful). Spent overnight glamping at a lodge that provided a delicious dinner, had a bar, and even provided entertainment in the evening with music, dancers and acrobats. Plus I had a great group of other travelers in my jeep, which was nice. This is also a good price for a two day, two park safari. Didn’t like Tarangire as much as Ngorongoro, but happy to experience both and definitely recommend. Tour operators are very nice people.

Tarangire and Ngorongoro are distinctive and a brilliant experience. We had an outstanding experience with Malisa, the Travel Africa guide-cum-driver, from start to finish. I had a booking issue which Get Your Guide took some time to resolve but that fades from memory in view of the intensive experience among the wildlife. Overnight at the lodge in Mto wa Mbu was also very good. I highly recommend this two-day combination.

Everything very organized and well rehearsed, safe transport, comfortable accommodation. Driver and guide Malissa is the best I've ever met on all the tours in various places around the world. I strongly recommend the activity.

Superb experience. Very good general organization, a top guide and very good meetings with the 3 people sharing our 4x4. It is ideal for a first step in the world of safari, we recommend ++

It was a really nice tour. We saw a lot of animals and our guide Malissa was very nice and gave us a lot of information. It was a successful tour and I would do it again and again
