Full description
Embark on a guided private tour to discover Tallinn’s Soviet history. Visit highlights like the Memorial to the Victims of Communism, Pirita Yacht Club, Linnahall, National Library of Estonia, and more. Drive until Lasnamae to see a fascinating part of the city that was considered Tallinn’s model socialist micro-district until the 1990s. Feel the typical Soviet atmosphere with apartment buildings that have not yet been remodeled. Learn how it has preserved its original appearance as a typical residential district. Walk through the district which is like an open-air museum of Soviet Estonia reflecting the style and architecture of its time. Enjoy a drive to the Baltic seaside to discover the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Maarjamae, dedicated to Estonian people who suffered the terror of the Soviet regime. It is a grand architectural achievement serving to remind the fragility of freedom and human life. Continue to the outdoor exhibition of the history museum showing life-size statues of old Soviet leaders like Lenin and Stalin. Access the history of the totalitarian state and sense the ideological foundations and methods of Soviet society. Take a break at the Pirita Yacht Club, built to house the sailing games of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, and enjoy the scenery of the Baltic Sea. Cross the city center until Linnahall, a city hall reminiscent of the 1980 Olympics. Experience wonderful views of Tallinn and learn about the history and architecture of this iconic concrete building. End your tour at the National Library of Estonia, the largest library in the Baltic countries with underground floors for a huge book depository. Listen to its similarities with Linnahall, featuring grand staircases and a maze of access stairs all over adding a clearly urban dimension. Choose to walk to the old town which is just 10 minutes away or visit the Museum of Occupations and Freedom.

We spent a fascinating half day with Stanislav learning about recent Soviet history around Tallinn, and would recommend him in a heartbeat. To note: this tour is not an ordinary tour of Old Town or its surrounds. Stanislav takes you to parks, monuments, the bay and more, and explains what it was like for him growing up as a Russian-speaking Estonian. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he is easy to talk to—you can tell he genuinely enjoys meeting people from all over. Plus, he is quick to recommend local places to eat and visit. We would have loved to have spent more than a half day exploring with him. Thank you Stanislav!

Stan was an incredible tour guide. He is very knowledgeable of the history of Tallinn and took the time to take us to different places while making sure he answered all our questions. He is genuine, kind and welcoming. He took really good care of us during the tour and we had an awesome time. We highly recommend this tour.

Our guide was very, very friendly and answered all individual questions. We have seen a lot in the "short" time with a lot of background knowledge. It was very interesting and definitely recommendable!
