Cross mountain ranges and fall into deep valleys, passing by sheer sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, and panoramas of richly forested valleys. Camp under the stars and enjoy fine wine or beer and a hearty meal. Then spend time at the end of the walk, exploring the magnificent Jenolan Caves.
Day 1: Walk: Approximately 15kms 6 hours walking with breaks Medium grade
Meet at the historic Carrington Hotel in Katoomba for a walking briefing at 8:30. Head near the Explorer Tree and follow the main track down to the clifftop lookout above the gorge of Nellies Glen. From here, look down the Megalong Creek Valley in the direction you will be walking.
Enjoy a delicious lunch at the Dryridge Estate Winery the Megalong Valley with spectacular views back towards the Blue Mountains escarpment. Continue through the valley and cross the Bowtells Swing Suspension bridge to Coxs River ‐ bring your swimmers as this is a great place to take a dip and revitalize in the crystal clear waters.
Stay the night at a remote eco bushwalking lodge overlooking Coxs River and enjoy a wonderful dinner prepared by your guides including fresh salmon, and swap stories with your travelling companions.
Walk: Approximately 19kms 7 hours walking with breaks Walk: Medium grade
Enjoy a delicious breakfast. A challenging uphill day awaits climbing 800 meters over the course of the day.
Begin with 3kms of steep track before morning tea. Continue up towards Black Range ridge then enjoy a lunch stop to re-energise at Mini Mini Saddle. Follow the fire trail along Black Range, passing through wooded country, to the top of Black Range. Transfer the short distance to Jenolan Caves House for overnight accommodation. After a refreshing shower, join the group in the delightful Chisholm’s Restaurant to enjoy a two course meal featuring local produce and wine and chat about the day’s adventures.
Walk: Approximately 10kms 4 hours walking with breaks Walk: Medium grade
After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of the Temple of Baal Cave, renowned for its beauty and spectacular features. Enter the Temple of Baal Cave via the ‘Binoomea Cut,’ a long man-made tunnel. Then, travel down the ‘Dragon’s Throat’ via a dramatic winding staircase. There are 2 massive chambers, one 42 meters high and filled with beautiful formations. One of these formations, the 9 metre tall ‘Angel’s Wing’ shawl, is one of the largest cave shawls in the world. The cave also offers beautiful examples of crystal helictites.
Finish the last section of the walk along the steep fire trail from Carlotta Arch to Binoomera Ridge. Stop for lunch on the way, where we may be visited by the friendly local kangaroos. |At the end of the walk, arrive at Black Range the end of our walk. From here, enjoy transport back to The Carrington Hotel and the end of an amazing walking holiday.

Meet at 08:30 at the historic Hotel in Katoomba, which is a 2-minute walk from Katoomba station in the Blue Mountains. If driving: Drive to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, the M4 eventually becomes the Great Western Highway at the base of the Blue Mountains. Keep following the Great Western Highway to Katoomba. Eventually turn left off the high way into Katoomba. Drive across the railway bridge, turn left at the first roundabout, turn right at the second roundabout. This is Katoomba Street. The Carrington Hotel can be seen directly on the right, behind the "Carrington Place", Katoomba's town square. (Open in Google Maps)
