Jewels of Lower Silesia Full-Day Tour from Wroclaw

Begin this full-day tour of the Lower Silesia with a visit to the magnificent Ksiaz Castle, undoubtedly one of the greatest monuments in the region. The 3rd largest castle in Poland, it is also known as “The Pearl of Lower Silesia,” and is nestled in the picturesque valley of the River Pelcznica. The castle boasts many different architectural styles. Its chambers once hosted distinguished guests, such as John Quincy Adams (one of the U.S.'s first presidents), Winston Churchill, and the emperors of both Germany and Russia. Visit the representative part, find out the history of the rise and fall of the family, hear about the incredible fortune, high society scandals, tragedies, and why the castle still holds some mysteries.  The final site on your tour is the marvelous Church of Peace in Swidnica, rightly earning its place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. A magnificent masterpiece of sacred art, it was originally built by the Protestants out of wood, straw and clay in the 17th century. Swidnica is also the birthplace of World War I air force legend Manfred von Richthofen, also known as the “Red Baron.” You will have the opportunity to see his modest house.

Wroclaw: Lower Silesia, Ksiaz Castle & Church of Peace Tour

Wroclaw: Lower Silesia, Ksiaz Castle & Church of Peace Tour

Książ is the third largest castle in Poland, located on a majestic rock cliff by the side of the Pelcznica River. Beautifully surrounded by the forest at the height of 395 meters above sea level, the castle is often called ‘the Pearl of Lower Silesia’. Such a location corresponding to the size of the building is rare in Europe. In 1943, Hitler’s paramilitary organization had stormed into the castle and began to construct one of the most important quarters for Adolf Hitler. The Church of Peace in Świdnica is the largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe, built in the former Silesia in the mid-17th Century amid the religious strife that followed the Peace of Westphalia. Constrained by the physical and political conditions, the Churches of Peace bear testimony to the quest for religious freedom and are a rare expression of Lutheran ideology in an idiom generally associated with the Catholic Church. Built outside the city walls, made of wood or clay and built in less than a year, now placed on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Świdnica's Market Square - very charming place that is a must-visit. Renovated, colorful townhouses with Gothic relics, beautiful fountains, including a well with Neptune from 1732, and impressive lighting awarded in competitions make quite an impression. The Wałbrzych Palm House arose from the initiative of the last representative of the Hochberg dynasty in Książ Castle, Hans Heinrich XV. The Prince had it built for his spouse, Mary Theresa Cornwallis-West. It is the only such facility in Poland that has been preserved in its original construction.

Wroclaw to Polish Pottery Factory and Church of Peace

Wroclaw to Polish Pottery Factory and Church of Peace

Explore the factory where they produce world famous polish pottery and see how it is done. This trip is popular among women who enjoy partnering style with their homes. For centuries, one of the premier art forms in Central Europe has been the pottery and ceramics created in the Silesia region of Poland. The durable and functional creamy white and blue stoneware pieces are unique and easily identifiable. Ceramics and pottery are a definitive part of the identity of the city of Bolesławiec, Poland, and the town itself is often called the "town of ceramics". It is impossible to talk about the town without talking about the ceramics that have been produced there for over a thousand years, and it is a matter of great pride for the inhabitants. Ceramic art has long been intertwined with Bolesławiec, a town located in Silesia and a historically disputed region of Europe. The ceramic works are referred to as Boleslawiec pottery, or sometimes by their German name of Bunzlau pottery or Bunzlauer pottery. There has recently even been a resurgence in the popularity of Boleslawiec ceramic art in the United States. The geography lends itself to ceramic work as the area is rich in natural clay deposits; the clay is still excavated today, and is of extremely high quality. It has a high feldspar and silicon content, and is classified as stoneware after firing. It is fired at extremely high temperatures, at approximately between 1,100-1,300 degrees Celsius. After visiting this factory you will have time to spend in some of the factory's shops, before your driver will take you to Church of Peace in Świdnica. Many tourists are tired of visiting churches but I can promise you have never seen such church before. Apart of unique history of its construction church has breathtaking interiors full of amazing paintings and sculptures. It is the largest timber frame building in Europe which could host over 6 thousands people at the same time. Around the church is an old cemetery with big trees and some buildings belonging to the parish. You need around 30 minutes to explore the church and its surroundings. Then your driver will take you back to Wrocław.

Could not have asked for a better experience. Vasily, from the moment we meet him, was wonderful. We spent the best part of 9 hours in his company and he was totally engaging and helpful. We drove from Wroclaw to Prague on backroads other than toll roads, and his knowledge of the countryside kept us enthralled the whole way. His obvious love of Poland shone through and his pride in its achievements left a very positive mark on us. BTW we had booked this trip having had a fairly ordinary experience on the train from Krakowska to Wroclaw. We cancelled our onward ticket and booked this drive. Sure it was more expensive but we are the better for it. A wonderful day. We meet up with Vasily the next morning for coffee in Prague. I feel we have made a new friend. Great way of getting from A to B. Thanks Vasily. I would highly recommend

We really enjoyed this tour and our guide was great. We ended up being the only two people, so it was like a private tour! We even had some extra time due to a bit of miscommunication at the castle about the pickup, so our guide offered to take us to Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp instead of the Market Square in Świdnica. Although a sad addition to the tour, it was very interesting and unexpected.

Excellent driver. His English was perfect and he regularly provided useful information about all kinds of things. The entrance tickets were well organized on site, we didn't have to do anything ourselves. TOP.
