Full description

Head south departing from Strasbourg where the first stop will be in Bergheim, a superb village on the wine route that contains many hidden wonders within its medieval walls. You will then have the opportunity to visit the charming town of Ribeauvillé, the ancient fief of the Lords of Ribeaupierre. History will call out to you on every one of its pedestrian streets.  After a visit to Hunawihr and a photo stop in front of its famous fountain, you will head to a local winemaker to taste traditional Alsatian wines. Enjoy the lunch break in the village of Riquewihr, one of the best-known in the region —  particularly renowned because of its idyllic location in the heart of the vineyard. The tour will continue to two villages that are equally famous for their historical character: Kaysersberg and Eguisheim. These two medieval villages have been elected “Favorite Villages of the French", a famous French program celebrating the year of the French’s favorite villages. Kaysersberg won the edition in 2017 and Eguisheim in 2013. Head back to Strasbourg at the end of the afternoon, after a day filled with great memories and beautiful images. The guide only speaks french - but audioguides will have all language options

The villages were gorgeous, particularly the 1st village Bergheim. We felt we were would have liked more time in the villages, and dropped the wine tasting. Though the winery and tasting was great it impacted the time spent to wonder and enjoy the villages. Personally We would have preferred doing a separate wine tasting tour. The van was awesome, though cold and windy in the morning when the roof was slid back, and sunny in the afternoon when it warmed up. But a lovely way to travel. We did misunderstand the guide, for us his instructions were not decisive and clear, and we did miss the bus for the next village but fortunately we saw another guide with the same company who was amazing taking us to the next village with his group. In fact it was a highlight meeting this guide and his group of travellers! GYG were awesome with the messages of help when we reached out to them. I highly recommend GYG with tours, unfortunately on this one Sebastian our guide is not recommended.

This is a nice trip along the wine route into 4 different charming villages. You are in a medium sized group ( we had 15) in a bus where the top slides back and you can see if the weather is pleasant. If you want to be able to be in the open air, sit toward the back. the front is completely covered. I feel it is important to know you have a driver NOT a tour guide. This is self exploration with suggestions on a map. While seated and driving, you are provided a headset which has a variety of languages & listen to the narrative of the areas you are about to explore and passing through. I did not realize that the tour guide provided NO narrative or interaction other than to show you where to begin your exploration and where & when to be back to the bus. As the trip goes on for hours, (9-7:30) it was not pleasurable to listen to this droning on and on about the areas on a headset. A tour guide would make this trip exceptional. It is just average as it is, Needs a lively guide.

Overall, I think this is good value for a day trip covering 4 medieval towns with some commentaries along the way using the audio set in the tour van and a wine tasting before the second medieval town. Our tour driver was Martin and he was very warm and welcoming throughout the tour. Tips for those going to this tour: When going during summer months, wear sunscreen and if you prefer, a wide brimmed hat as you will be riding the tour van top-down and will be exposed to sun for most of the time. Bring something light for warmth for the chilly morning and evening (on your return from the tour). Bring hygiene wipes (as the public toilettes won't have toilet paper), water to carry with you when you walk around (note that some of the water in the fountains are NOT potable for drinking). There is pharmacy in the last stop so I would suggest that if you need OTC medications have them handy with you as that will be too late in the tour by then).
