Stockholm's archipelago divides the city into a smorgasbord of attractions for different tastes. Here are five of the best, rich with history and character, to build any walking tour around.
Swing by the private palace of the Swedish Royal Family and roam its fabulous gardens. Don't forget to check the Palace Theatre's program of Summer concerts!
One of Stockholm's most historically significant buildings is pretty from the outside, but its interior is truly spectacular. It's also home to Scandinavia's largest pipe organ!
These magnificent monuments stand opposite each other in Stockholm's Old Town. You'll want to tour the area's cobbled streets to catch other historic sights, like the Riddarhuset.
This neo-classical building is home to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the annual Nobel Prize ceremony. Great to see lit up at night!
One of the city's most popular parks and always full of life – even in winter, when the ice rink opens up! If visiting in spring, be sure to see its gorgeous cherry blossoms.
Free walking tours are a great way to see Stockholm on a stringent budget, and you'll likely be surprised by how good they are! That said, don't forget that this is how your guide makes a living, so don't forget to bring some cash for a tip at the end.
The archipelago makes Stockholm very flat and easy to traverse – not to mention scenic! Walking tours don't have to be grueling, with most taking about an hour and a half. Seeing beyond the key landmarks can add quite a bit of time, however, with longer tours averaging at about three hours.

What People Are Saying About Stockholm
Would definitely recommend. Made a snowy weekend in Stockholm even more festive!
We (2 adults and a student) had a fantastic tour and got to know the most important facts about Gamla Stan.
we participated on a Baltic cruise and wanted to choose a program which in a few hours show us the Center, brief history of Stockholm as well as introduces us to Swedish cuisine. we were pleasantly surprised when it turned out that this is a private tour and we were only two with my wife. this way the immersion into culture and history was more interactive, we learned really a lot, but the best was our guide, who enthusiastically gave us all the info we needed and could answer our questions very knowledgeable. I absolutely recommend the tour to couples or small groups, the walk is not demanding, although need to be careful with the choice of shoes as the cobble stones on the streets could be tough on high heels:) another good thing of the tour was the opportunity to taste different local specialties. after a short walk we came back to the agency where we tasted 5-6 different types of appetisers, we then walked again and finally had a main of our choice at a restaurant.
Samuel was a fantastic guide , who knew the city and the history. When seeing Stockholm for a day we got a great overview. We were blown away with the Vassa Museum. The only downside was that we forgot to get the voucher for the return trip.
This was a great start to our time in Stockholm. We had a tour at 2pm on our first day with Katrina. She was lovely! Super knowledgeable about Sweden, Stockholm and the area our tour was in, Gamla Stan. We lucked out and it was just my boyfriend and I for the tour, so we had her full attention and asked all sorts of questions we she happily asked. Deffo recommend this as a way to find your bearings and learn about Stockholm's rich history. Thanks Katrina!
