Put on your jogging shoes and let’s go! Sightjogging is a fantastic way to explore Stockholm. Together with your guide you'll see fabulous sights and get your workout done!
What to Expect
Stockholm, a city made up by one-third water, one-third development and one-third greenery, is the perfect place for sightjogging. The lush walkways along the waterfronts allow for stunning views and combined with 750 years of history there is no better reason to stop every so often, catch one’s breath and listen to the stories and legends of the city. You couldn’t have picked a better city to go sightjogging!
You can choose from different routes depending on what you are after; the city, greenery or a combination of both.
The City Highlights (City Center & Old Town)
Starting out in Kungsträdgården, a large park and popular meeting point for locals, the jog takes you past the Prime Minister’s residence to the City Hall, taking in views such as the Grand Hotel, Parliament building and the Royal Palace. From the City Hall you proceed to the island of Riddarholmen, or as you would say in English, the Island of Nobility, where you find private palaces from the 1600’s. The final destination is the Old Town, jogging up and down alleys you stumble across sights like the main square of the Old Town and Coronation Church.
Lush Stockholm (Djurgården & Old Town)
Old Town, in Swedish is known as Gamla Stan, and is the place you will begin your adventure. Highly appropriate, as it is from here that the Swedes like to say that Stockholm has grown; that this is where everything once began. Listen to stories and legends of the people who used to live here, take in sights like the Royal Palace, the statue of Saint George and the narrowest alley in Stockholm. From the Old Town you make your way along Strandvägen, a boulevard built with the hopes of being “unparalleled in Europe”. Fantastic architecture and lush views guaranteed. This sightjogging tour ends on the island of Djurgården, known as the Green Lung of Stockholm and the recreational area for the city locals.
Bohemian Stockholm (Södermalm)
Perhaps you have been to Stockholm before and would like to experience a different part of the city? Södermalm is known as the Bohemian part of Stockholm. The story about Södermalm begins at the beginning of the 1600’s. At this time there isn’t enough room for everyone to live in the Old Town and it is decided that anyone that is poor or deceased will have to live on the island of Södermalm. Over time, areas like Södermalm develop into trendy and bohemian areas, and that is what they have today! Chic boutiques, cozy cafes and great restaurants. Bohemian Södermalm offers great views of the city and it is known as the home of Lisbeth Salander, from the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This sightjogging tour starts at Slussen and ends at Nytorget.
