Day 1: Botlierskop, Oudtshoorn Travel route about 450km / 6 hrs daily. Leave Cape Town or Stellenbosch early morning ( between 6am to 7am) and trade the silhouette of Table Mountain for the lush green scenery of the start of the Garden Route region after about 450km of driving. The first game reserve visited is 5 hours driving away (subject to weather, stops and traffic), but the route is scenic with a few photo and rest stops along the way. The 3500ha Botlierskop private game reserve is located in a malaria-free area and home to an abundance of wildlife including four of the Big Five, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, well over 26 different species of animals, and more than 200 bird species. Spot some of Africa’s wild animals from the back of an open-top 4x4 vehicle and particularly keep your eyes open for lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino sightings. Leopards are nocturnal hunters, evasive and not contained by fences so it's unlikely to see them during these game drives.  During the 2-hour game drive you may get a more personal encounter with nature on a short tranquil bush walk (subject to weather & safety). Hop off the safari vehicle for about 5 minutes, following your game ranger to look for smaller wildlife and plants of the coastal Renosterveldt region.  A short drive to end your day in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. Enjoy your evening at leisure under the Klein Karoo's twinkling starry skies. Ask your guide to book a restaurant meal or optional 'braai' barbecue dinner - subject to availability - to taste local delights, such as ostrich 'sosatie' kebab & 'pot brood' bread. Day 2: Oudtshoorn, Route 62 After breakfast, jump straight into the thick of the Klein Karoo bush this morning as you set out on an open-topped 2-hour 4x4 bush drive to seek out more of Africa’s smaller wildlife at Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve. Your expert guide and ranger will help spot wildlife and share some of nature’s secrets while teaching you about the region’s fauna and flora. This bush drive focuses more on looking closer to see details of nature as the reserve is not home to many big game. Join elephant guides on an optional Elephant Observation in Nature activity (at extra expense) to see three rescued elephants in their natural habitat near the waterhole. Learn about these gentle giants, under the watchful eye of the elephant guides. As you observe these lovable creatures you can take photos and ask ellie-related questions. End-off the day with a 400km drive along Route 62, the longest wine route in the world! Capture the beauty of high mountains, twisting passes, and rugged Karoo plains before arriving in Cape Town or Stellenbosch by evening (between 8pm to 10pm).

Discover where Simon van der Stel, the town’s colonial founder, set up camp on the Eerste River, and where the river got its name. Perhaps you'll meet an angel at the "Angel Factory," or a ghost in the graveyard of the ”Moederkerk.” Amble The Braak, or village green, with its historical buildings surrounding it on 3 sides, and Dorp Street, the oldest residential street in South Africa. Start your tour at 9 AM at the tour operator's shop to collect a bicycle or E-Bike and helmet to suit your size. The guide will carry saddle panniers for those who would like to buy wine en route. Set off on your ride around interesting historic sites in Stellenbosch Town. Then, cycle further along the scenic Jonkershoek Valley where the mountains form part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Follow a winding road through oak and poplar forests which leads to a wine estate nestled in the valley bottom. Here you can take in the stunning views while enjoying a wine tasting of some award-winning wines. On the way out of the valley, stop at another wine estate which sports beautiful grounds and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Participate in a private cellar tour before you sit down for a chocolate and wine pairing that will make your taste buds tingle. After the tasting, head back into Stellenbosch Town via the famous Stellenbosch University before ending the tour back at the tour operator's offices. There are some variations on this guided bike tour for varying levels of difficulty so the tour can be tailored to suit your cycling ability. The tour lasts between 4-5 hours.

You may also want to take this opportunity to grab a coffee and absorb the town's vibrant energy before you move on to your first wine tasting experience of the day. After exploring Stellenbosch, the next stop will be at Lanzerac wine estate for your chocolate and wine tasting pairing experience of the day. Lanzerac is one of the oldest wine estates in Stellenbosch and here you will enjoy a unique tasting of 5 Premium wines paired perfectly with a selection of artisanal chocolates. From Lanzerac, you will drive up and down the Hell's heights pass to Tokara. The wine tasting here consist of 5 classic wines including a Rose and one of the best Carbert Sauvignon in the area. The deep rich soils consisting of decomposed granite, weathered sandstone affords Tokara the privilege to grow individual batches that are then blended to make top tier wines. After your second wine tasting experience, the journey will take us to Franschhoek town via the historic town of Pniel. Franschhoek, meaning the French's corner, is surrounded by mountains and manicured vineyards on all sides. You will have a lunch break here and you may also want to take this opportunity to explore the shops. Same as in Stellenbosch, here one may find art stores, jewelry stores, fine leather stores, clothing stores or even fine chocolate factories! Soon after the lunch break and the exploration of Franschhoek, the tour will make a headway for the Franschhoek terminals for your second leg of the wine tasting experience by tram. It usually takes about 8 minutes for the tram to travel between farms and you may hope off at a farm of your choice among the list of farms provided on your route. Two would be the maximum number of farms that you can visit by tram but you may also do a third one, time permitting. Your first possible stop by tram would be at the first female owned farm in Franschhoek, Rickety bridge. Here you will be more than welcome to choose any of the available wine tasting options. You may also opt out of the wine tasting and instead seat at Paulina's restaurant and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains and the vineyards of the Franschhoek valley. Franschhoek cellar offers a unique wine and cheese or handmade Belgian chocolate parings. A traditional wine only tasting is also available should that be a better choice for you. On our way back to Cape town, you will have an opportunity to stop at a prison where Nelson Mandela spent the last 2 years of his 27 years in incarceration. A Lifesize bronze statue of him stands just outside the prison gates with his fist clenched into the air as if to symbolize strength and courage.
