Admire remarkable collections of paintings, prints, and sculptures as well as tapestries, carpets, ornaments, furniture, and jewelry. Gain fascinating insight into these artworks from your knowledgable guide. Starting with 225 paintings purchased in 1764 by Catherine the Great, the museum collection now comprises more than 3 million objects and works of art. Treasures and artifacts from almost every culture known to man are housed in the museum, including the unique collection of Greek jewelry from the Black Sea region, Scythian gold, ancient Egyptian sculptures, Iranian silverware, Chinese manuscripts, Russian icons, and Byzantine applied art. Choose the “Hermitage and Staff Building” option and visit the restored halls of the General Staff Building located in front of the Hermitage. I booked this tour to make sure we got to see the items of interest at the Hermitage. We were lucky, that as it was February, there were only 2 of us on the tour. Our guide, Olga, was friendly, knowledgable and obviously had a passion for art. We learnt a lot on the tour about the history of St. Petersburg, the history of the Hermitage and about the items on display. We are looking forward to our next tour with Olga as our guide.

Our guide Maria has done a great job in showing us the Winter Palace with good English. It is lucky that only our group joined today so that we can get a private tour! Maria is professional and informative and she leads us to a fruitful cultural tour this morning. Time flies with her good work!

Our guide Alla was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of interesting bits of information about all of the exhibits. At no time did we feel rushed and she easily held our attention for the whole tour. The museum is enormous and without Alla we would not nearly have enjoyed our time there as much. Cannot recommend her highly enough. She was very pleasant, obliging and approachable and was happy to take questions at anytime. It is clear that she really loves her job and it was a complete delight to be in her tour group.
