What to Expect
St. Petersburg is famous all over the world not only for its marvelous palaces, monuments and museums, but also for its beautiful surrounding areas. The former Royal summer residences still delight the citizens and the guests of St. Petersburg, so why not join us for a guided tour of St. Petersburg’s magnificent suburbs.

Our guided tour starts in the morning, giving you enough time to explore both parks and palaces during the day (until 18:00). Our guide will meet you at your hotel lobby, and you will then be driven to each location by car/mini-van, giving you the chance explore these splendid palaces and picturesque parks on foot.

Pavlovsk is located about 30 km (19 miles) to the south of St. Petersburg. Dating back to the late-18th and early-19th century, Pavlovsk was a summer residence of the Russian emperor Paul I and his family.

The architects contributing to the palace were among the greatest of the period: Cameron, Brenna, Quarenghi, Voronikhin and Rossi. The rooms of Pavlovsk Palace are decorated with natural and artificial marble, moldings and paintings.

The wonderful interior decor blends beautifully with the impressive decorative objects and applied art, such as vases of semiprecious stones from the Urals and Altai mountains, ornamental metalwork, porcelain, colored glass, ivory, amber and many other objects fashioned by skilled craftsmen.

Pavlovsk’s landscape park, one of the largest in Europe, covers an area of 600 hectares.

After visiting the palace and walking through the park, we will drive to Gatchina, is about 30 km (19 miles) from Pavlovsk.

The sight of Gatchina is at once imposing and amazing, stretching across an incredibly wide area, on top of a hill over Lake Serebryannoe. Built as a secluded castle, it rises above the still water and dominates the surrounding landscape.

Giant proportions, ten towers, walls faced with local limestone, and the underground passage leading to the lake make the palace different from the other summer residences in the suburbs of St. Petersburg; this incredible place was a favourite residence of the Imperial Family.

The total area of Gatchina landscape parks reaches 660 hectares. They are filled with picturesque lakes and ponds featuring unusual planning. Wild nature around the palace was turned into a fashionable English-style landscape during the time of the first owner of the palace.

The parks are decorated with numerous bridges, terraces, stone stair-cases, pavilions, and the Forest greenhouse, constructed by architect Brenna from local limestone.

Join us to admire two exceptionally beautiful palaces and see how the talented architects of the time masterfully combined the natural landscape with the architectural construction. Plus, hear about the fascinating history of the Russian tsar Pavel, and Russia’s incredible histrory in general. A unique day you will remember for a long time!
