Sometimes called Germany's answer to Amsterdam, St Pauli is located in the Hamburg-Mitte borough and contains the world-famous Reeperbahn, the city's red-light district. For a real taste of the nightlife, here are our top 5 places to go.

One of the best bars on the Reeperbahn. With different DJs playing each night, it's a prime spot to stop for a drink.
On a side street from the Reeperbahn, you'll find the world's oldest tavern. With capacity for 1200 guests, come in and enjoy some Bavarian beer and live music.
If you're more interested in clubbing, then make a stop at Grosse Freiheit no. 36. Definitely one of the top night spots on the Reeperbahn, you won't be dissapointed.
With a main dancefloor, one in the basement, one in the garden, and one in the penthouse you can't go wrong in this clubbing haven, no matter what your tastes.
Despite a rather shady past, the red-light district of St. Pauli is now very safe for locals and tourists alike. Here you can have the night of your life and party until the sun comes up.
Hamburg has a wonderful public transpot infastructure, and at night, a special "Nachtbus" (night bus) service connects the outlying districts and the city center, so you'll never get stuck on the Reeperbahn!
Lots of fun & knowledge in a safe environment from someone who was there! I expected there to be a big group but I was the only one so fantastic that tour still goes ahead. The early time of 5pm ensures area is pretty calm & I bravely had a drink in one of the bars before the tour. Peter was very knowledgeable, but so am I so I wasn't at all disappointed in his presentation, though his accent was a little hard to understand at times. We were able to go to all the key spots undisturbed and he pointed some out some that I didn't know about & was able to get good pics. He had some postcards of some interesting shots which he wanted to flog to me for 20e, but I didn't need them, I have my own, but could be nice for some other fans. The tour was just an hour instead of 1 1/2 but I saw everything I wanted & more. The 'Beatlesplatz' I had seen on my own, but he pointed out things I hadn't noticed myself. Well worth the money!! Thanks all, lots of people in Ireland will be very jealous!
We booked the English Tour and we ended up having a private tour for 2 people. The guide Katja rang half an hour before the tour to double check that we were coming and we were able to find the meeting point. Not something that other tour guide company do so often! Our guide Katja was excellent, very informative and ready to give more information when asked. She did a very interesting tour and also she was really discreet and not obvious at all in one contest where it would have been easy to do so. She knows everything about the place and being local she also will tell you the anecdotes about the city of Hamburg. Her English is perfect and I strongly recommend to ask for her for the Tour. The stop at the apartment on the main square is a nice plus given to the tour! A must do in Hamburg!!
We ended up having a private tour since we were the only ones that booked that night, even though it was a Friday night. Our guide was incredible - she knew everything about everything and had knowledge and experience way more in depth than I ever expected coming into this, and she was absolutely hilarious to boot! She had recommendations for everything, never skipped a beat or a building of interest, and her stories she had of relevant previous experiences as a guide in this area were both incredibly informative beyond what you'd normally ever get to hear and incredibly interesting to listen to. Could not recommend this more. If you do only one tour in Hamburg, make it this one!!
Our group of 9 people took the St. Pauli tour at 23 o'clock on a Friday night. All of us were very excited, and I would definitely recommend. Our guide, Kai, was exceptional! He was truely a local and gave us an honest and very inspiring impression of the city. We ended up in an area full of bars perfect for continuing our night out. Thank you Kai, for a great experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day on the hop-on hop-off bus in Hamburg and found that we could see much more of the city than we would have under our own steam. It also helped to have an English commentary and we found out quite of lot of information about Hamburg than we previously knew.
