Full description
Built in honor of Ireland’s patron saint, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral stands adjacent to the famous well where tradition has it, Saint Patrick baptized converts on his visit to Dublin. Built in 1220, the Cathedral is today the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland, hosting sung services twice daily Sunday through Friday, and also serves as a popular visitor attraction. On view are a selection of artifacts relating to Jonathan Swift, the dean of the cathedral from 1713 to 1745 and author of Gulliver’s Travels. The cathedral also features a new Discovery Space with iPads playing samples of their choir and touch screen technology illuminating the cathedral’s long history. Perhaps more than any other building in Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral embodies the history and heritage of all Irish people of all backgrounds from the earliest times to the present day.

Beautiful cathedral absolutely breath taking! The handy ‘listen to’ guides were handy. The fact that you could take your time around the area was a bonus, as I didn’t feel rushed. The beautiful little shop ar the end was an added bonus! Well worth a visit!

This church was more amazing than I imagined. Beautiful photo opportunities around every corner. Although it was very busy (around 1:00 pm on a Monday in June), it was not so crowded that you could not enjoy yourself. I highly recommend the use of the audio headset supplied in the price. It gives a good backgrounder, and you don’t have to listen to them all, or even listen in any particular order. Guides located around the church were very accessible, and more than willing to answer any questions.

Honestly, it’s history overload when you take the audio tour. I just was there to see some cool architectural details. Kinda bummed that it wasn’t set up more like a traditional church service. And after paying an admission fee, the baskets to put money into in order to light a tea-light candle were a bit much.
