Visit one of Grenada's most challenging diving sites, the wreck of the Hema 1, on this scuba diving adventure. Choose from different amounts of dives and explore the wreckage of a ship built in 1963 that lies 30 meters below the Caribbean's surface.
What to Expect
Dive deep below the water's surface to explore the wreck that lays at the bottom of the ocean on this scuba diving adventure. Built in 1963, the Hema was a 50-meter long freighter which was on its way back from Grenada to Trinidad. In rough seas, the ship started to take on water and as the bilge pump wasn’t working properly the Captain couldn’t make it back to the protected harbor of Grenada.
The Hema 1 sank on the 5th of March 2005, approximately 4 miles off the south coast of Grenada. Thankfully, Grenada’s coast guard managed to rescue all the crew members.
Today the ship wreck lies 30 meters below the water on its starboard side. Due to its location in the Atlantic the Hema 1 is exposed to strong currents, which makes diving a real challenge. The wreck itself a hideaway for nurse sharks, reef sharks, and eagle rays. Great Barracudas are always around and approach divers closely. This makes the dive thrilling, challenging, and extremely rewarding. Don't miss your chance to explore Grenada's most intact wreck!
