Full description

Travel back in time on a guided walking tour of Split and explore 1,700 years of the city’s history, from the construction of the Diocletian Palace in 305 CE, to its place as Croatia's second largest city. Uncover sights like the Saint Domnius Cathedral along the way.

Meet your guide at the Golden Gate of the Diocletian Palace and marvel at the remains of an ancient palace from the Roman Empire which now forms about half the Old Town of Split. Stop to view its open colonnades in the palace's central Peristyle square.

Continue to the impressive Saint Domnius Cathedral, which is thought to be the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original form. Hear about the story of Gregory of Nin by his statue in Giardin Park.

Stroll along the Riva promenade to admire views of Marjan Hill and the Adriatic Sea. Finish your tour where it began at the Golden Gate.

This has been one of our favourite tours to date! Ivan was a fantastic guide and did a great job of explaining all the history whilst keeping it interesting and also full of humour. Tour was just the right amount of time and walking, such an interesting place - we were so glad to have had the guided tour to really appreciate the city and it's history! Would 100% recommend if you are visiting Split, a must do.

This tour was excellent! We started our visit to Split on our own thinking we would guide ourselves. (that was a Mistake) We decided maybe we were missing some details. We booked our guide to see what we might be missing. It was inexpensive. $17.40 Canadian each. We should have just started with this tour. Our guide was easy to locate. We started outside the north entrance of the palace. Our guide spoke very clear english, was informative and funny! She explained things about day to day life back in the day that we never would have known on our own. The history and stories of the Palace and the inhabitants was incredible. And the guide also provided us with suggestions and recommendations for local dining and other things we shouldn't miss. Don't miss this tour.

Tanya was hilarious! She made the tour ‘round the Palace great fun in addition to all the great information she shared. She connected old Croatia with new Croatia and that perspective was a welcomed addition to the tour. I’d definitely recommend this tour to first time visitors to Croatia / Split.
