Full description
Enjoy a day in inland Croatia on a full-day excursion to Plitvice Lakes National Park, where you will visit Croatia's largest national park. After leaving from Split and Trogir the road then takes you through the countryside toward a unique jewel - the Plitvice Lakes. The unity and harmony of the 16 lakes and their rare natural and cultural value is not only famous on the local level, but also worldwide, and the lakes are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arriving in Plitvice Lakes National Park, your tour starts on foot through the woods, led by your guide. The path takes you across Gornja Jezera, which are the upper lakes, and then you continue by boat, accompanied by the sound of the waterfalls, to Donja Jezera, the lower lakes. Tavertine are rock deposits from mineral springs that build barriers, sills, and other forms in karst rivers and streams, leading to the creation of magnificent waterfalls. Over the time, the water changes its course, leaving some barriers dry but depositing new tufa. This phenomenon makes the Plitvice Lakes look different all the time, as they are constantly changing from one day to the next. You will know when you are approaching the Great Falls, 256-feet (78 meters) high, when you hear the roaring thunder of the water hitting the ground. Afterward, the road will take you to Outlook Cave, which is known from the scene in Karl May’s movie, Treasure of Silver Lake, a story about a famous Winnetou. Your journey ends with a panoramic train ride. After a nice walking tour you can recuperate with an optional lunch in a local restaurant. After a whole day exploring the magical forests and lakes, you will return to Split.

Loved this tour with Portal travel agency! Everything was very well organized, a detailed map with the meeting point was provided ahead of the tour start and the van was very comfortable (we were lucky to be a small group which turned out to be great!). Andrej is a skilled and calm driver, I felt absolutely safe and in good hands at all times. Toni our guide made this trip fun and very enjoyable. He took good care of everyone while still letting you explore on your own if you wanted to. I totally recommend this duo for your trip!! The lakes itself are simply breathtaking! Totally worth the long drive would visit again without any hesitation!

Was an early pick-up but definitely worth it. The day was well planned. Our guide, Silvio was amazing - I liked that he shared his knowledge about the lakes and the park with us. Our driver, Milo ( I might have gotten that wrong; my apologies!) was also wonderful. They both made sure we were having a good time and we were comfortable; even at the restaurant. The tour bus, I want to note was much more comfortable than I expected. One of the best tours I took when I was in Croatia.

    Amazing tour!

We booked this tour for our trip whilst in Split - it is very long day of travelling so be ready for quite a lot of time on the coach but wow it is totally worth it - this place is so amazing and gorgeous. Nicolina was our tour guide and I am so glad she was - she was truly entertaining, gave us lots of interesting facts along the way, took really good care of us and she was very funny too! Excellent tour guide :) thank you Nicolina
