  • Discover an architectural open air museum of ancient Roman ruins
  • Have a typical Bulgarian lunch
Full description
Plovdiv, the second biggest city in Bulgaria, is considered to be one of the oldest settlements of Europe. With more than 7000 years of history, Plovdiv is situated on the crossroads between the West and the East amid the fertile plain of Thrace, where history and modernity go hand in hand. From the ancient times until today, culture and art thrive within a vivid medley of shapes, styles and colors. The city is home of the fabulous remains of the ancient Roman Empire – the Roman Stadium, Roman Forum and the amphitheatre. The old town of Plovdiv, situated on the three hills of ancient Trimontium, with its houses from the national revival period (18 to 19th century), is proclaimed an architectural open air museum. The tour will offer visits to some of the main landmarks of Bulgaria from Thracian times, through the Roman Empire period, the national revival till and the modern age. This tour will start from your hotel. After a 2-hour transfer, you will reach Plovdiv, where you will visit the main sites of the ancient Roman theater, the Roman stadium, the forum, the old town and have a typical Bulgarian lunch. Return to Sofia – the tour will end at your hotel.

a great visit

Our guide-driver Ángel was very kind at all times, he made the trip an experience. Plovdiv is a city that is worth visiting, the typical Bulgarian lunch was tasty, but without a doubt the best thing was our guide, he explained everything very well, polite, attentive and a very good driver. To put a downside, the price seemed a bit high.

The town of Plovdiv is truly delightful. The guide who came to pick us up at the hotel, Cesare, a really smart young man, very kind, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. We had actually booked, and paid for, a guide in Italian, but Cesare, who made an effort to say a few words in Italian, was an English guide! In addition, he arrived at our hotel more than an hour late, so much so that we were afraid he would never come again, given that we had already been planted by the driver who was supposed to come and pick us up at the airport! The lunch was not exceptional, plus the waiter didn't even know we had to go (!), But when you eat in foreign countries you have to be satisfied with the food you find. Overall, however, our opinion of the tour is positive, it was pleasant and it was worth it.
