Akureyri-Siglufjörður; Half day to the arctic coastline

Akureyri-Siglufjörður; Half day to the arctic coastline

Siglufjörður was the main herring town in Iceland during the “herring years”. In the early 20th century the workers arrived in full force to the area to make the most of this exciting time. Without a doubt, herring played the biggest part in getting the Icelandic nation out of the turf houses and into the modern time. Tour start in Akureyri and we do offer hotel, harbour or airport pickup/drop off free of charge. The tour itself begins with a visit to a former herring village, Hjalteyri. A visit there is like stepping back over 50 years in time. The old houses along with the former herring meal factory stand there as if waiting for the past to return. Our next visit on this tour is to the local farmer's market Vellir which is located in Svarfaðardalur a authentic Icelandic farmers community. We then end our tour in Siglufjörður where we begin our stay by visiting the award winning Herring Era Museum (included in the tour price). Here you will have ample time to explore the boats, workers living quarters, and the factory areas of this impressive museum. You will have free time to explore the town or enjoy refreshments in a local bakery before we head back to Akureyri

Tour: The tour was great and full of amazing stops! The accommodations were always very nice and clean and the breakfast buffets were always very rich. Whale watching, Puffin village, waterfalls, glaciers...we saw so many beautiful locations in 6 days, I can only recommend it! Our Guide: We were incredibly lucky to have Siggy as our guide! He really deserves 10 stars for his skills! He always tells interesting stories about the places you visit, and has an answer for every question. The whole group was amazed by the dedication he puts in his job and I can't imagine a better guide than Siggy. If you are so lucky to be assigned to his group, you will learn a lot about Iceland, because he really loves this incredible country! If you see him ,say "Hallo" from me! Thank you Siggy!

Very nice I enjoyed it and enjoyed all the activities . Hotels were good I loved being in the wilderness hotel! The only thing I wish the weather cooperated for the northern lights 🥲

The group and Adolf the tour guide were very good. It was a lot of fun traveling with the people. We would definitely do it again and Iceland is definitely recommended in winter too.
