Full description

Depart Colombo and travel by a shared vehicle, in a small group, to the city of Sigiriya, and head directly to Sigiriya Rock on arrival. Gaze in awe at the massive column of rock that, according to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle The Culavamsa, was selected by King Kassyapa as the site of his new capital. Admire numerous paintings of historic queens, princesses, and maids inside the rock fortress before getting a break for lunch at your own expense. Then, explore some of the traditional crafts of the region, such as wood carving and batik textiles, with time to purchase souvenirs before departing. Start the journey back towards Colombo via Dambulla to explore the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Discover the magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colors and different shapes, painted from around the 2nd century B.C. up to the 18th-century Kandyan era. Optionally Can be done the Wild Life Safari at Eco Park or Kaudulla National Park or Minneriya National park charges for National Park very on Pax Count ( For solo Passengers $ 100 & $ 60 )

Know before you go

  • Comfortable walking shoes are recommended
  • All visitors to Buddhist and Hindu temples are expected to remove their shoes and hats. Shoulders and knees should also be covered
  • A moderate amount of walking is involved. Guests must climb 1250 stairs at Sigiriya Lion
  • The duration of the transfers is approximate and will depend on the time of day and traffic conditions
  • A current valid passport is required on the day of travel
  • The tour is subject to favorable weather conditions. If canceled due to poor weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date
  • Breakfast stop is available between 08.30 AM to 09.00 AM
  • When you entering to Hindu temple or Buddha temple, shoes and slippers must removed

My guide Chathu was amazing, a very professional driver and a nice person. The day was amazing, he brought us around the cities explaining the history of the place and answering to all of our questions. I recommend him very much! The price for the overall tour is exaggerated though, considering that it does not include entrance ticket to the touristic attractions.

The tour and the guide were both great. Sigiriya, while challenging, especially in the heat, is ultimately worth the climb. There are several stops on the way up and the local guide, who was hired on site by the tour company, was always checking with us (although he was also quite pushy, insisting we tip staff in the toilet…), so it’s not like you have to do all 1200 steps in one go. Make sure to take water with you as there isn’t anywhere to buy one on the way up. We were offered two optional tours, one to the national park, and one around the local village. The problem with this is that because the tour isn’t private, all of you have to agree on what to do, and we ended up doing neither (which, in a way, was good, as we ended up getting back around 7pm).

We enjoyed every bit of the tour except the breakfast place. In that restaurant they tried to charged me extra, and they did not give me my full exchange. The coffee that we bought in the breakfast place was awful. Tasted really bad. Maybe made with water from a well. Hope they will stop working with that breakfast restaurant. Other than that, sigiriya tour was really amazing. Our tour arranged another tour guide in sigiriya so that we can get the history behind it. Safari was one of the best activities that we had in sigiriya, since the Yala tour arranged by Elephant shadow tour was cancelled. Saw lots of elephants. I definitely recommend activities except breakfast
