Full description
Wine lovers will enjoy this full-day tour through the beautiful Tuscan landscape with stops to visit some typical local wineries. Explore the famous wine hills of Montalcino and learn about the process and passion involved in creating Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's most prestigious wines. Your tour begins with a drive along the ancient Roman road from Siena to the famous wine hills of Montalcino. The first stop will be at a small, typical area winery where you’ll have a chance to walk in the vineyards, explore the cellars, and enjoy an introductory tasting of world-famous Brunello wine. Next you’ll head to Montalcino, the hill town that gives its name to the region and its wines. Here you’ll have the opportunity to climb the fortress walls, spend some time browsing the shops and tasting the Brunello wines in wine bars, or simply enjoy the incredible views of the valleys and vineyards below. After visiting the town of Montalcino the tour continues on to the stunning ancient mystical Benedictine Abbey of Sant Antimo, a special place in a tranquil setting. You’ll enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch at a family-run winery, accompanied by the delicious wines produced at the facility. Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the farm. In the afternoon you’ll visit a third winery where you’ll get a detailed description of the wine-making process, and learn how the vines are cared for and about the long aging process in oak barrels. After visiting the cellars and getting to know the winemakers, you’ll sit down for a final tasting of this nectar of the gods.

Amazing tour guide, beautiful scenery. I wasn't a fan of the first winery and much preferred the second and third wineries, which were on a smaller scale and special. One improvement - alot of the wines we tried, we were told they would taste better if they had time to breathe or were drunk with food. The second winery we had lunch with the wine and it made a huge difference. I think all the wines should be opened in advance of arriving and perhaps some small portion of cheese served with each wine to bring out the flavours of the more complex wines

Wine making and wine drinking is all about communication and sharing. This is exeactly what we experienced on that tour of the Brunello de Montalcino producers. Thanks to our guide Elio's attentive care and passion for local history, culture and economics, along with the 3 producers we met, we learnt a great deal and shared with the other people in the group a truly delicious moment under Tuscan sunshine. All our hosts were most welcoming and willing to share their passion for their terroir and the product they make. A most perfect day.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and used to be a wine maker himself. He walked us through the wine making process even before we got to the first tasting which really helped understand the cellar your better. The 3 wineries selected were all very different but we got a great flavor of the types of brunellos from different parts. Most of the group bought wine from 2 out of the 3 wineries, which goes to show how much we enjoyed it. The only downside was the lunch was below average. It was a at a charming winery, but the pasta was overdone (shocker for Al dente country!). However the starter and desert was great and wine pairing was very generous indeed .
